There is Super League action on our screens on Saturday as the Catalans Dragons welcome the Warrington Wolves to town in what is a pretty big match for this stage of the season.
Catalans took their time to get going but they’ve now won their last two although they face their biggest test of that little revival here. Warrington head to France with a 100% record on the season and a win here would justify them as title contenders.
The Dragons were edged out by Wigan in the opening week of the season before Hull FC took them apart in France but they used the World Club Series break wisely and have bounced back with back to back wins albeit against an injury hit Leeds and a woeful Wakefield. We’ll get an idea of where they are at here.
Morgan Escare has been named in the Catalans squad for this match and he is set to start for the first time this season. Alrix Da Costa is the man to make way for the exciting full back. Ritchie Myler faces former employers for the first time.
Warrington were poor last season but they’ve hit the ground running this term with their success largely based around their half back combination of Chris Sandow and Kurt Gidley. Wins over Leeds, Hull KR and Wakefield were what you would expect but they showed all their fighting spirit with the win over Salford last week.
Kurt Gidley missed the win at Salford last week but he’s back for this match so Warrington look even stronger even allowing for the injury to Gary Wheeler. Stefan Ratchford will be freed up to play a more prominent role which is no bad thing. Ben Westwood remains on the sidelines.
This should be a great game of rugby. I’m particularly looking forward to the half back battle of Carney and Myler against Sandow and Gidley. It is hard not to be impressed with the Warrington duo this season and with the speed and skill they have in their forwards I think the Wolves are going to be hard to beat in this match.
I don’t normally take Catalans on when they are at home but although they’ve won back to back matches they’ve not beaten anything so they look a little short on their form of the campaign so far. At odds against given their start to the season Warrington have to be the call here.
WON – Back Warrington to beat Catalans for a 4/10 stake at 2.25 with Betway
