Super League XXII – Castleford Tigers vs Catalans Dragons Betting Preview

The latest round of Super League matches finish at The Jungle on Sunday afternoon when two of the best sides in the competition to watch battle it out when Castleford Tigers host the Catalans Dragons.

A win for the Tigers will send them soaring to the top of the table while Catalans will move up to sixth place if they can pinch the two points so there is plenty on the line here.

Castleford Tigers

If you don’t like watching the Castleford Tigers then you simply don’t like sport. They have been fantastic to watch this season with a free flowing, fast, entertaining brand of rugby that they play and when they are on it there may not be a side in Super League that can contain them as we’ve seen when they’ve destroyed Leeds and Warrington this season.

In fairness Cas’ attacking play hasn’t been an issue for a few seasons. The only thing that has held them back in the past has been their defence but that has improved immensely this season. They have shipped just 61pts in five matches this term which is the best record in the competition now to highlight the stark turn around.

Catalans Dragons

Castleford are fantastic to watch but when the Catalans Dragons are bang on it they are not a million miles behind it has to be said. They also like to give the ball a bit of air and play an expansive and entertaining form of rugby and if they are in form they are tough to handle as the leaders Hull FC can testify to.

After a bright start to the season though the form has dipped for the Catalans Dragons which is a bit of a concern, as is their record on the road where they have shipped big points to Wigan and more worryingly to Leeds in their last two journeys across the Channel. Giving away penalties continues to hamper them as well.

Team News

Castleford will be without one of their wing twins this week as Greg Minikin picked up a shoulder injury last week. Joel Monaghan isn’t a bad replacement though. Rangi Chase is back in the squad.

Catalans Dragons have Louis Anderson back available for this match and he replaces Mickael Simon in the squad for this one. Jodie Broughton is a long term injury victim so he won’t feature here.

Betting

Two sides looking to bounce back from a defeat last week collide in this match and it will be interesting to see how they respond. You would have to say Castleford Tigers have plenty in their favour but the Catalans Dragons are dangerous when they want to be.

I can understand why Castleford are giving up as many as 16pts in this match but that might be a few too many and instead I fancy the overs in total points. The line looks a trifle high at 53.5 but with Castleford averaging more than 37pts a match it might not be high enough.

Generally when these two meet they produce plenty of points. The last five meetings have contained point totals of 64, 70, 63, 62 and 62 so there is enough to suggest we’ll see plenty more here.
