Super League XXII – Castleford Tigers vs Hull FC Betting Preview

The Friday night Super League match this week is an absolute cracker as the Castleford Tigers take on Hull FC in a top of the table battle which could easily be the Grand Final in just over three months time.

Castleford Tigers head into the contest on top of the table and a win here and will go eight points clear with a win while Hull FC are now third after Leeds’ win on Thursday. If they prove victorious they will close Cas’ lead to five points and move back into second.

Castleford Tigers

The leaders got back to winning ways last week when they were too good for the Leeds Rhinos but they go up against the side who appear to be their bogey team in this match. They have met Hull FC twice this season already and have lost on both occasions and for a side who have only lost four matches in total that is half their losses to this opponent.

One of the reasons for their struggles against Hull is they have struggled to contain their power up the middle. Castleford look to play on the edges and at home especially it is a tactic that works exceptionally well. I would imagine after those two defeats they won’t struggle for motivation for this one.

Hull FC

It is now four wins on the spin for Hull FC who look to be hitting form at just the right time. This is nothing new though. They were firing on all cylinders around this time last season but lacked the stamina to go the course and distance and so they will hope they have paced themselves better this time around.

Hull FC have suddenly started churning out huge numbers of points in attack with Albert Kelly the driving force behind that. They score through the middle and on the edges and are hard to contain and when they have it right they are equally as tough to score against too hence the season they are having.

Team News

Castleford are going to be without Junior Moors again for this match but Michael Shenton returns having missed last week. Greg Minikin is the man who is rested for this one.

Hull FC have got Albert Kelly back for this match which is going to be significant especially after Marc Sneyd came back last week. Steve Michaels is out but Mark Minichello returns.

Betting

Usually I am all over Castleford Tigers when they are at home but I’m going to waver from that in this match just in case Hull FC really are their bogey side. I think we’re all set up for an absolute cracker here. Their two meetings so far this season have been terrific contests and this should follow suit.

Those two matches have been high scoring too with Hull FC winning 26-24 and 32-24 so far in this campaign. If anything though Castleford go up a level at home but I don’t see any reason why Hull FC won’t score points. Castleford regularly put up 40+ on sides at home and if they get anywhere near that total here the 50.5pts line will get battered. I like the overs in a match which I see as being very open.
