Super League XXII – Friday 26th May Matches Betting Preview

The first of the two sets of Super League matches on this Bank Holiday Weekend conclude on Friday night with five games on a busy night of action in the top flight. We have a TV match among the five but each of them will have to go some to match the drama and excitement of Thursday night’s game.

We will go through each match in detail and as always that will begin with the TV match which this Friday comes from Headingley.

Leeds Rhinos vs Warrington Wolves

The Warrington Wolves will be looking to do the double over the Leeds Rhinos after beating them earlier in the season while both sides will be out to make up for disappointing results at the Magic Weekend.

Leeds say Danny Maguire has passed a fitness test to play in this match and they have Mitch Garbutt back while Warrington will be without Bennie Westwood who broke his hand in Newcastle on Saturday. If Maguire does play this is an interesting match. If he doesn’t for me the edge goes to Warrington.

I’ve thought all season that Leeds are struggling out wide and their right sided defence against Castleford was shocking. That is an area Warrington can attack and having had an extra 24hrs to recover for this match I think the visitors are the value especially if Maguire isn’t 100%.

Castleford Tigers vs Widnes Vikings

The league leaders Castleford Tigers will be looking to maintain their lead at the top of the Super League table when they take on bottom of the pile Widnes Vikings at The Jungle. Castleford walloped Leeds at the Magic Weekend while Widnes were given a good going over by Wakefield there.

We don’t need to go too deep into this one. Castleford are playing tremendous rugby right now whereas Widnes aren’t and what is worse for Widnes is that they will be without arguably their two best players in Rhys Hansbury and Joe Mellor while Castleford aren’t stupid and Rangi Chase isn’t available.

Castleford have battered sides a lot better than Widnes at home this season and I’m expecting another lights out performance from the leaders here. They can cover 28pts in this one.

Salford City Reds vs Catalans Dragons

After the events of earlier in the week the good Doctor has opened the gates for anyone for this match so long as they rightfully make a donation to the Manchester support fund which should mean a large crowd is in place for this match and why wouldn’t it be as the Salford Red Devils are playing some superb rugby right now.

Catalans Dragons begin life without Laurent Frayssinous in this match and they will do so without Benjamin Garcia who picked up an injury at the Magic Weekend whereas Salford head into the clash without too many problems personnel wise.

Catalans have had some real problems in recent weeks finishing matches off. Leeds came from miles back in the second half against them and Huddersfield did likewise at the Magic Weekend so the best bet in this one could be for Salford to cover a converted try in the second half. Catalans might be up for it under new leadership initially but as they tire Salford can take over and give the Manchester people something to cheer in a difficult week.

Hull FC vs Leigh Centurions

All eyes will be on Hull FC on Friday night to see if they can recover from the absolute mauling they took at the hands of St Helens at the Magic Weekend on Saturday. Leigh were well beaten themselves in Newcastle by Wakefield so both sides will be desperate to bounce back here.

I can’t possibly be backing Hull FC after last week’s farce and while I fancy Leigh have a win in them somewhere I would imagine it is more likely to come at home. This is an easy match to sit out in my eyes.

Wakefield Trinity vs Huddersfield Giants

The final match of the night is a Yorkshire derby between the now Wildcats-less Wakefield Trinity and Huddersfield Giants. Both sides won their matches at the Magic Weekend so will have their tails up heading into this one.

Although Huddersfield won last weekend I didn’t think much to them, as I haven’t for much of the season, and I certainly don’t want to be with them without the suspended Danny Brough but in a derby clash I’m not sure I want to be backing a side to cover too many. Wakefield might cover a converted score but I’m not as sold on it as I need to be.
