Super League XXII – Salford Red Devils vs Leeds Rhinos Betting Preview

The final match of the Super League weekend is a huge one at the top of the table as the Salford Red Devils take on the Leeds Rhinos in what should be an exciting and entertaining conclusion to the latest round of matches.

Whoever wins this match will consolidate second position and move four points ahead of Wakefield Trinity in the race for the top four at the end of the season. The losers will have to look over their shoulders for a few weeks.

Salford Red Devils

This has been a fantastic season for the Salford Red Devils so far but the key is for them to finish it well and not undo all their hard work. They are flying high in Super League and have made it to the Challenge Cup semi-finals and they could well have Manu Vatuvei waiting in the wings as well which would be huge.

That said they have only won two of their last five matches in all competitions so they need to get their foot back on the pedal. They did give Huddersfield a bit of a going over last week which should have boosted their confidence heading into this match. That semi-final is on the horizon so they need to remain focused on the now rather than the future.

Leeds Rhinos

After what looked like being another nightmare of a season for Leeds in the early stages they have turned it around nicely and you could make a genuine case for them to be the favourites for the Grand Final with the lack of big match experience around them at the top of the table.

They will hope to call on that experience here and do a job on a dangerous rival. The good teams in sport tend to rise to the occasion when they have the chance to lay a marker down ahead of potential bigger matches between the two to come and Leeds have the opportunity to do just that here.

Team News

Salford have Todd Carney, Mark Flanagan and Logan Tomkins out for this match with Jake Bibby among those coming in. There is no sign of Manu Vatuvei arriving just yet.

Leeds will be without Rob Burrow and Brett Ferres but they do have Danny Maguire and Jamie Jones-Buchanan back from suspension. Liam Sutcliffe is another who is out with an injury.

Betting

I like the home side in this match. It is true that they don’t have the greatest record against the Leeds Rhinos but the Salford Red Devils are playing some great rugby this season and I think they match up well to Leeds.

I think they have the edge of Leeds in the halves which is a big area these days and they more than match them up the middle too. Leeds probably shade it in the back line but there isn’t a huge amount in it with the Rhinos injuries. Salford should be full of confidence with the year they are having and they can edge out the Rhinos in this one.
