Super League XXII – Sunday 12th March Matches Betting Preview

The current round of Super League matches comes to a close on Sunday afternoon when the final four sides yet to play do so as the first month of the season draws to an end. As with all Sunday matches these ones aren’t in front of the TV cameras so in terms of commentary it is BBC radio for us to keep up to date with things.

Wakefield Trinity Wildcats vs Salford City Reds

Two sides with good wins last week will do battle in this match as Wakefield look to back up their win over St Helens while Salford will be aiming to build on a good win over Warrington so there is plenty to play for here.

Wakefield looked decent enough in beating St Helens but Salford were impressive themselves in beating Warrington so I can’t really find an edge in this one. If pushed I’d plump for Salford with Justin Carney back but this could go either way so it isn’t for me to get involved in.

Widnes Vikings vs Castleford Tigers

Two sides at opposite ends of the table do battle in the other match when the Widnes Vikings, yet to win a game this season, host the Castleford Tigers who are unbeaten for the season and are absolutely flying at the minute.

Widnes are struggling to score points at the beginning of this season although they will be delighted with the way they fought back from 14-0 down in France last week to draw 14-14 with the Catalans Dragons. That form wasn’t exactly franked on Friday night though.

Castleford are running in points for fun, they are defending strongly and in truth the only side who look capable of beating them at the minute are themselves but with Ben Roberts back for this one and Daryl Powell having the luxury of not picking Rangi Chase even though he is available again I’ve got to think the Tigers are good things here.

This artificial surface should suit Castleford’s fast flowing rugby down to the ground and it is hard to see Widnes handling them. The 14pt handicap looks big but it might not be big enough if the last couple of weeks are anything to go by.

Tips

WON – Back Castleford (-14) to beat Widnes for a 4/10 stake at 2.00 with Coral
