Super League XXII – Sunday 4th June Matches Betting Preview

The chaotic recent Super League schedule draws to a conclusion on Sunday afternoon when the final four matches of the current round are played out up and down the country. With matches beginning to run out ahead of the split in the competition all four matches take on extra importance.

We have the top two in action on Sunday and the bottom side too so both ends of the table are in focus in what is a busy afternoon in the competition.

Huddersfield Giants vs Warrington Wolves

Warrington Wolves are in something of a rut right now and while they look to have the ideal opponents to bring them out of that slump given that the Huddersfield Giants have been nothing special all season the Giants have a significant advantage on the Wolves which isn’t ideal.

Warrington played twice last weekend while Huddersfield were unbelievably allowed to put their second match back a few weeks so there is no doubt they go into this match in better physical condition. That said I can’t bring myself to back them as a favourite so I’ll sit this one out.

Widnes Vikings vs Catalans Dragons

Two sides who have ok weekends in the second ‘Easter period’ meet in Widnes when the Vikings host the Catalans Dragons. Catalans saw off Hull FC on Monday evening while Widnes had a win over Leeds earlier in the weekend.

In truth I can’t find a lot of faith in either side heading into this one. If pushed I’d maybe chance Catalans but they are terrible on the road so it is pretty easy to leave this one out.

Salford Red Devils vs Wakefield Trinity

Salford have the chance to go top of the table if they can better the result of the Castleford Tigers on Sunday and they are widely expected to see off the Wakefield side who head into the contest off the back of something of an injury crisis.

Salford look to be going from strength to strength and while I expect them to win I am a little cautious about backing them to cover a significant handicap purely on the recent workload. We saw Leeds kicking penalties when given the chance the other night and that shows how much fatigue is around. I’ll let Salford win here rather than take a chance that they have enough to cover 12pts.

Castleford Tigers vs St Helens

The table topping Castleford Tigers host St Helens in the big match of the day on Sunday but the home side will be hard pushed to come out on top in this one even allowing for how good they have been this season.

That is because in something of a protest at the recent schedule Daryl Powell is going to rest a number of star players for this match including Luke Gale, Zak Hardaker, Michael Shenton and Mike McMeeken so that sways the balance over to St Helens.

If Castleford resting players wasn’t enough, St Helens were the other side who were amazingly given the day off on Bank Holiday Monday so they should be much the fresher side here as a result. St Helens already have a won over Castleford to their name this season and a second one has to be well within range here.

Tips

Back St Helens (-4) to beat Castleford Tigers for a 4/10 stake at 1.91 with Bwin
