Super League XXII – Wakefield Trinity vs St Helens Betting Preview

The final match of Super League before the split comes from the Beaumont Legal Stadium in Wakefield as Wakefield Trinity host St Helens in a clash between two sides who have their eyes on a top four finish come the end of the season.

Wakefield are currently best placed to achieve that aim but if St Helens can knock off their hosts here they would have every chance of replacing them in the semi-final mix come October.

Wakefield Trinity

This time last season Wakefield Trinity fell away dramatically and they will be hell bent on avoiding a repeat of that. There are no signs of them slipping away just yet. They have won their last two matches and were only beaten by a solitary point in the other game by the league leaders Castleford Tigers.

Wakefield are still scoring points and I think a few injuries they have managed to overcome through the season could benefit them as with players coming back into the fold they will be fresh which should allow them to maintain their intensity all the way through to the end of the campaign, whenever that may be.

St Helens

After an indifferent start to the season things are beginning to come together for St Helens and if they can prime themselves for a consistent run then they could yet gatecrash the top four and really push for a place at Old Trafford. They need to find some form on the road if that is to happen so this is a big test.

Saints go into this clash off the back of three wins in their last four matches which is up there with their best spells of the season. They have always been pretty tight defensively but now they are adding points at the other end on top of that so their only concern remains this away form which is a complete mystery.

Team News

Wakefield Trinity have Reece Lyne back from suspension for this match and he comes into the squad along with new signing James Hasson who could make his debut after signing on loan from Salford.

Kyle Amor missed St Helens’ win over the Catalans Dragons last week but he has been passed fit for this one and he has taken his place in the squad.

Betting

I’m tempted to back St Helens in this match but I am going to respect Wakefield Trinity enough and leave the game alone. St Helens’ away form is there for all to see and I admit it is that which puts me off taking them. I don’t think there is enough value on the hosts to warrant a punt on them so I’ll sit the Sunday match out.
