Super League XXII – Warrington Wolves vs Catalans Dragons Betting Preview

The last match of the Super League weekend could be the biggest one as the Warrington Wolves take on the Catalans Dragons in a huge clash in the bottom four of the table. The draw between Huddersfield and Wigan on Friday night has given one of these two the chance to close the gap between themselves and the top eight and both need to do it.

Warrington Wolves

It has been a really poor season for the Warrington Wolves and if you had said that was going to be the case after the World Club Challenge match with the Brisbane Broncos you would have got plenty of funny looks but since then they have barely won a match and have made errors you wouldn’t let a school team make.

Warrington go into this match off the back of a heartbreaking defeat in the Challenge Cup last week when they had two late chances to win the match but snatched at both of them and paid the price and that was reminiscent of their season. They are a side who have simply forgotten how to win and who need to remember pretty quickly.

Catalans Dragons

If ever a side needed a week off it was Catalans Dragons so they will have been delighted they were afforded that luxury last week. During that time they appointed a new coach in Steve McNamara and the former England boss will take charge of his new side for the first time in this match. He takes over a struggling side.

Often when a new coach comes in there is a reaction and the French outfit will hope that is the cast for them here. They have won a match recently but they have suffered some pretty bruising beatings either side of it so you would think they confidence is likely to be a touch on the low side which isn’t ideal.

Team News

Warrington will have Chris Hill back which will be massive for them but Stefan Ratchford is out through suspension. Kevin Brown misses out after missing the cup tie last week. Kevin Penny is included in the squad.

Catalans Dragons new boss Steve McNamara will have Jodie Broughton, Ben Garcia, Jason Baitieri and Justin Horo back from injury which should help them put up a better performance.

Betting

I think it is fair to say that neither of these sides are in the greatest form but one of them has to win and I think at the prices it is worth chancing the Catalans Dragons. We saw last week that Warrington have forgotten how to win and if this is close in the latter stages then Catalans could easily get gifted this match.

Hopefully from a French point of view the new coach syndrome kicks in for them but they have enough going for them in returning players, a woefully out of touch opponent and a week off to prepare for this one that they are value to win at 23/10.
