Super League XXIII – Catalans Dragons vs Castleford Tigers Betting Preview

There is one match left in the Super League this weekend and it comes from France where the Catalans Dragons host the Castleford Tigers is what is a big match for both teams as we near the end of the regular season.

Catalans know that with a win here they will finally climb out of the bottom four and will have just four matches to hold on to avoid dropping into the qualifiers again. Castleford will want to win to keep up the heat on the top two.

Catalans Dragons

The Dragons go into this match in excellent form having lost just two of their last 10 matches in all competitions and one of those was by a point to the Huddersfield Giants and the other was against the leaders St Helens, who look by far and away the best team in the competition. A win here could be huge for their season.

I think it is fair to say that the Challenge Cup came at the right time for the French outfit and now they have an exciting semi-final against St Helens to look forward to in a few weeks. The key to the upturn in form for the Dragons has been their attack. They have scored 25pts or more in each of their last five Super League matches which will always give them a chance.

Castleford Tigers

The Tigers are in pretty decent touch themselves at the minute with their only defeat in their last six in the Super League coming to the aforementioned St Helens and there really is no shame in that. They have won three of their last four including victories against Warrington Wolves and the Wigan Warriors so even without key personnel they are finding a way to win.

The big thing for Castleford has been their ability to win tight matches. Due to the injuries that they have, they are not able to rely on their offensive abilities to run up the 40s, 50s and 60 point hauls that we saw from them last season but they are being resolute in defence when they need to be and are coming up with the match winning plays at the right times.

Team News

Catalans Dragons will be without the suspended Sam Moa for this match while injured duo Jodie Broughton and Antoni Maria will miss out. Mickael Goudemand returns to the squad for the home side.

Castleford Tigers are shuffling their pack after last week’s exciting win over Wigan Warriors. They bring Liam Watts, Jesse Sene-Lafao, Oliver Holmes and Adam Milner back into their squad with Jy Hitchcox and Joe Wardle among the men missing out.

Betting

Whichever way you look at this one it looks like we are in for a close match and I think that could benefit Castleford Tigers. There probably isn’t much between the two teams on form which means we should probably side with the better team and that is what I’m going to do here by backing Castleford.

I think the four stars they are bringing back into their side and the freshness they should have could be the thing that sways this in their favour. The 10/11 on an away win looks a fair enough price but I don’t see Catalans getting thrashed here so I’m going to push the boat out a little and go with the Tigers to win by 12pts or fewer.
