Super League XXIII – Friday 2nd February Matches Betting Preview

The opening weekend of the Super League continues with three more matches on Friday evening. We saw the Grand Final winners on the first night of the season and on Friday we will see the side they beat to win that crown.

As with Thursday evening we have a live game to enjoy on our TV screens with the other two matches getting regular updates on the coverage and full updates are provided on the various social media feeds. Once again we’ll begin with the TV match.

St Helens vs Castleford Tigers

The TV match on Friday night is a repeat of the semi-final of last season which was one of the best matches in the Super League era when Castleford Tigers won in golden point extra time and if this match is half as good as that one was we are in for a treat.

Whether it is as good or not remains to be seen but I do think the result will be reversed. I think St Helens are the side to beat this season and boosted by the news that Alex Walmsley has signed a new contract I think they will rise to the challenge accordingly.

All eyes will be on Castleford in this match to see whether they can replicate their heroics of last season but it might not be the best night to judge that. They have a poor record at St Helens and I’m not expecting that to change here.

Salford Red Devils vs Wigan Warriors

There is a local derby at AJ Bell Stadium where the Salford Red Devils host the Wigan Warriors in a match both will be eager to win to get their campaigns off to winning starts not just because it is a local derby.

Salford have seen a large turnover of players leave their squad and it remains to be seen whether they have been replaced or not. Wigan have also lost a couple of key players and are missing a couple more through injury so this one immediately has the feel of a no bet match about it.

Hull KR vs Wakefield Trinity

It will be a big night at Craven Park where Hull KR return to Super League with a Yorkshire derby against a Wakefield Trinity side who are to be underestimated at your peril.

I think this could be a tricky night for the Wildcats though. Everyone in red and white are going to be on a high and they are sure to raise their game for their Super League return and having signed the likes of Danny Maguire during the close season their squad is certainly not the worst in the competition.

At 13/8 I think there is a little bit of value on the home side riding the tidal wave of optimism and excitement to kick their Super League return off with a victory.
