Super League XXIII – Huddersfield Giants vs Hull KR Betting Preview

Another round of matches in the Super League begins on Thursday evening when two of the bottom four meet at the John Smith’s Stadium as the Huddersfield Giants play host to the newly promoted Hull KR.

It goes without saying that both sides will be desperate to win this match and pull away from their opponent and those around them so we should be entitled to a very competitive battle to get the week underway.

Huddersfield Giants

The Giants go into the contest off the back of a win at Widnes last weekend. While on the face of it a win over the Vikings is nothing special, it did end a run of two defeats in a row so it was something that Huddersfield needed. They needed it for comfort if nothing else and they will be looking to build on that here.

A lack of points and a leaky defence have not been a good combination for the Giants but they managed to put 28pts on Widnes last week so there is a suggestion that they are just beginning to sort themselves out attacking wise. If they can now add a defensive stability to that there is no reason why they can’t go on a little run.

Hull KR

It has been a difficult start to life back in Super League for Hull KR. They have just one win in their five matches and in a couple of games they haven’t really been at the races but then in others they have performed well. They lost last week in France but they were unlucky to do so which means although they were beaten they can take something from their performance.

A lack of points in attacking areas has been the issue for Hull KR. The only time this season they have managed to score 20pts or more they have won but they have kept their opponents to 20 points or less in three of their five matches which at least shows they have something to build from in defensive areas.

Team News

Huddersfield have Jordan Turner back in their ranks after he missed last week’s win but they are without the injured Michael Lawrence and the suspended Daniel Smith for the game.

Hull KR are still missing their hooker Shaun Lunt as he has a lacerated knee while Danny Tickle is out of the squad too. James Donaldson will come into the squad as KR go in search of a second win of the season.

Betting

There doesn’t look to be an awful lot between these two sides on paper so I really am expecting quite a tight contest here and a run of the ball here or a piece of brilliance there could be what decides this which makes me think the 12pts that Hull KR are receiving is just too big.

Hull KR have left the likes of Leeds Rhinos to just 20pts this season and on what is expected to be a rotten night weather wise I would fancy them to do the same to Huddersfield. That means we’ll only need a couple of tries from them to keep them within a dozen which seems perfectly possible.
