Catalans Dragons vs Warrington Wolves

Two sides who have not made the start to the season they would have wanted have the chance to get something going when the Catalans Dragons host the Warrington Wolves in a match neither side can really afford to lose if they have lofty ambitions this term.

Catalans picked up their first win of the campaign last week when they edged out Hull KR but you would be kidding yourself if you thought they were convincing in any way. Warrington have two wins and are in the ever growing logjam on four points. A win here would send them right up the table.

I don’t think Warrington have been fantastic this season by any means but they have offered a stronger backbone than the Catalans and I think they will come through here. For long periods this might be tight but late on I can see the Wolves pulling away.

Wakefield Trinity vs Widnes Vikings

Third placed Wakefield Trinity have the chance to go level on points with St Helens at the top of the table if they can beat a Widnes Vikings side that are another in the big group on four points going into the evening.

Widnes have picked up two wins this season but when you consider one was against a pretty ordinary Catalans Dragons side and the other against Leeds when they had just got back from a trip to Australia and clearly weren’t at it, their form might well be overrated. You can’t throw that accusation at Wakefield who were undefeated before running into Wigan Warriors last week.

I think based on what we’ve seen this season Wakefield have to be the pick here. They have a good recent record over Widnes and the form of the Vikings is struggling to stand up. Wakefield came up short against Wigan last week but there is no shame in that. I think they’ll get back to winning ways with a fair bit in hand here.
