Super League XXIII – St Helens vs Warrington Wolves Betting Preview

The final round of matches in the Super League begins on Thursday night when the table toppers St Helens host a side who will be hell bent on making it back to Old Trafford in the form of the Warrington Wolves.

Both clubs have a Challenge Cup semi-final next Sunday but they have resisted temptations to save their efforts for those games which means we should be in for a bit of a humdinger of a contest to get the weekend underway.

St Helens

The win over the Wigan Warriors last week guaranteed St Helens a place in the play-offs at the end of the campaign even though they have eight matches of the season left. They will now be looking to secure a home semi-final and then ensure they top the table going into the play-offs. They should secure that fairly soon.

St Helens have been the best team in the competition from an attacking point of view and even at this stage of the season it looks like it is going to take a special performance from someone to deny them the domestic treble. The key for them from here on in is to find a way to maintain their intensity right the way to the play-offs.

Warrington Wolves

I think most people expected a big improvement from the Warrington Wolves this season and we have seen that. They sit third in the Super League table heading into the final weekend of the regular season and a win here will move them up to second ahead of the remainder of the matches to come on Friday and over the weekend.

Warrington have improved in attack and done so significantly. They are already through 500 points which represents a decent improvement. they have conceded more than the two sides above them but even then they are averaging well below 20pts per match on average so there has been a definite improvement in all areas.

Team News

St Helens are welcoming Zeb Taia, Ben Barba and Mark Percival back for this match after they sat out the derby win against Wigan last week. Adam Swift picked up an injury in that clash though and misses out here.

Warrington Wolves will also welcome a big name trio back for the contest. Bryson Goodwin, Ben Murdoch-Masila and Ben Westwood have all been made available for selection and should boost the side accordingly.

Betting

We look like we are going to get perfect conditions for this match and so with that I’m expecting a high scoring contest. Both these sides are good in attack and have players all across their back line that can break down the opposition and get over the try line.

They also have forwards who can get through the hard work but in the heat this one will be played under we may well see a tired team if not two by the end of the match and that all leads me to think we’ll see the points rack up.
