Super League XXIII – Wakefield Trinity vs Castleford Tigers Betting Preview

Another crazy Easter period gets underway in the Super League on Thursday evening when the Wakefield Trinity host the Castleford Tigers in a South Yorkshire derby to get a frantic five days of action underway.

Both teams will play two matches in quick succession so these two will certainly enjoy the fact they get the better part of 24hrs on the rest by playing on Thursday. They will enjoy it more if they manage to pick up the victory too.

Wakefield Trinity

Trinity go into this match off the back of a surprisingly heavy defeat to the Warrington Wolves last weekend. They went into that match as underdogs but not without a chance but really they were blown away from the first whistle which is unlike them. It goes without saying they will want much better here and they need to start better in order to get the desired result.

That result saw Wakefield drop to third in the table but they will go level on points with Wigan should they win the match and perhaps more importantly they will escape the logjam that is forming on eight points. It would also set them up nicely for their second match in the Easter period so this is more than just a derby.

Castleford Tigers

It was a match of two halves for the Castleford Tigers last week. At half time it looked like they would be cruising to success over the Leeds Rhinos and in the end they were holding on for dear life and needed the full time whistle to come along when it did. If they can play 80 minutes here like they did the first 40 then they are going to be very tough to stop.

The Tigers are another side going into the match on eight points and because of their poor point difference they are down in sixth in the table at the outset but a win will move them up to third and have them chasing down the top two who meet on Friday. There were signs last week that their explosive attacking play is returning which is a concern for anyone they play.

Team News

Wakefield Trinity have made a few changes to their squad. James Bachelor, Danny Kirmond and perhaps most significantly of all David Fifita drop out with Joe Arundel, Kyle Wood and Tinirau Arona returning.

Castleford have made just one change to their set up for this match with Oliver Holmes having completed a suspension. He returns to the squad in place of Jy Hitchcox for the derby.

Betting

Wakefield Trinity are a side that needs to be respected but they are without a couple of key men for them in Kirmond and Fifita and I fancy Castleford Tigers will be able to take advantage of that in this match.

It is fair to say that Castleford haven’t lit up this season like they did the last one but there were signs last week that some fluency in their attacking play was just coming back. There will be concerns about how they hung on last week but it took some scintillating Leeds attacking to burst them open. I’m not sure Wakefield have that. I fancy Castleford will score enough to win this and cover a converted try.
