Super League XXIV – Friday 14th June Matches Betting Preview

The Super League continues with two more matches on Friday night as the competition reaches the halfway mark in the latest round of fixtures. One of the two games is one of the highlight clashes of the Super League era while the leaders are involved in the other.

It isn’t very often these days that St Helens don’t get the televised treatment but that is rightly reserved for the battle between Leeds Rhinos and Wigan Warriors which takes place at Headingley. We’ll start off with that match.

Leeds Rhinos vs Wigan Warriors

Two teams who will have been expected to be performing much better this season than they are meet in what is therefore a huge clash at Headingley when the Leeds Rhinos take on the Wigan Warriors. Both sides know they are going to have to go on a lengthy winning run if they are to make the top five and that needs to start here.

Although they haven’t delivered the goods over the course of the campaign, both sides have picked up a wins recently to suggest that this will be a tough game and the difference in it could be three key absences for the Warriors with Zak Hardaker, Ben Flower and Taulima Tautai all missing. In what I expect to be a tight game I will take Leeds to win by no more than a couple of converted tries as a value call.

St Helens vs Huddersfield Giants

The leaders St Helens will look to bounce back from only their second defeat of the season last week when they entertain the Huddersfield Giants on Friday night and they are widely expected to come out with the two points.

Saints decided to rest a number of key men in London last week and paid the price for it so they won’t be making that mistake again that is for sure. Huddersfield were only denied a third successive win when they went down in extra time to Castleford last week so they are in decent touch at the minute. That is enough to make me swerve Saints to cover the 14pt start but there isn’t quite enough juice in that line for me to take on the wounded leaders so I’ll sit this one out from a betting standpoint.
