Two more Super League matches take place on Friday evening as the season begins to take shape and the teams start to get up to full speed, especially after the stop-start nature of it with the break for most clubs during the World Club Challenge last week.
Two of the four teams on show on Friday night will be looking to protect 100% records while two more will be looking to pick up an important two points. One of the matches is live on TV which we’ll begin our preview with.
St Helens vs Leeds Rhinos
The live match on Friday night is an age old Super League classic as St Helens and Leeds Rhinos, regular rivals in the latter stages of this competition, do battle with Saints looking to maintain their 100% record and Leeds looking to build on their first win of the campaign last week.
Leeds have had to do it pretty tough this season so far. Headingley isn’t ready for use due to the ongoing building work so they have had to play their matches away from home and they didn’t even get the week off last week either. St Helens did have the luxury of that break and so they are likely to be the fresher of the two teams here. Initially I was going to look to take Leeds on the handicap but the potential freshness of St Helens is enough to put me off.

Huddersfield Giants vs Warrington Wolves
The match away from the TV cameras on Friday night comes from the John Smith’s Stadium where the Huddersfield Giants will go in search of a first victory of the season when they host the Warrington Wolves who have a perfect record to keep hold of.
Warrington actually have a pretty ordinary record in this part of Yorkshire having lost their last five outings at Huddersfield so it will be interesting to see if they go any better in this match. The Giants are set to have two big players back for this contest with Jermaine McGillvary and Ukuma Ta’ai both expected to be in the line up which should boost the home team nicely.
It hasn’t been the best beginning of the season for the Giants but I think with those two big guns back they can remain within 10pts of the Wolves at the very least, if not preserve their ongoing decent record over Warrington.
