Super League XXIV – Monday 22nd April Matches Betting Preview

The second half of the brutal Easter schedule in the Super League sees all 12 sides back out on the pitch barely 72hrs after most of them began their weekend and with temperatures soaring in the UK this is set to be a test of stamina as well as ability.

We have six matches on the card on Monday with one of them live on TV which comes from France where ironically the weather is likely to be the coolest for the players. The other matches are all away from the cameras but all the usual feeds keep us up to date.

Monday’s fixtures are as follows: (3pm unless stated)

Huddersfield Giants v London Broncos

Hull Kingston Rovers v Warrington Wolves

Salford Red Devils v Wigan Warriors

St Helens v Hull FC

Wakefield Trinity v Leeds Rhinos

Catalans Dragons v Castleford Tigers (17.00)

Preview

The televised match is the final game of the day as the Catalans Dragons and Castleford Tigers meet to make it a brilliant Easter for whoever wins as they will have won both matches and enhanced their position in the table. Leaders St Helens will look to build on their fine derby win when they meet a Hull KC side who eased past their rivals on Friday. Warrington Wolves in second place will look to keep pace with Saints at the top when they make the trip to Hull KR.

There are big matches at the other end of the table as well with Salford Red Devils looking to keep Wigan Warriors down near the foot of things. London Broncos will look to come back off the bottom when they head to Huddersfield Giants with the other match on the Easter Monday card seeing Wakefield Trinity taking on Leeds Rhinos with the visitors looking to launch their season into life.

Betting

There are a couple of bets that I like on this Monday. I can’t say I’m massively enthused at Salford Red Devils having to cover four points but it is the right bet given that they demolished Warrington Wolves on Friday while Wigan were getting the run around by St Helens in a match where they sustained another chronically bad injury. Injuries are stacking up for Wigan so two games in three days is less than ideal for them. There are no such problems for Salford who have really attack this with a win under their belt this weekend already. I’ll play the -4 there.

Wakefield Trinity showed good character to almost steal the points from miles back against the Castleford Tigers on Thursday but their injury problems increased in that match too and that gives me the belief that the Leeds Rhinos can make it successive wins over the Easter period. Clearly this is not the best Rhinos going around but they should be good enough to take care of an injury ravaged Wakefield side off the back of a short preparation.

Tips

Back Salford Red Devils (-4) to beat Wigan Warriors for a 4/10 stake at 2.00 with William Hill
