Super League XXIV – Wakefield Trinity vs Warrington Wolves Betting Preview

Once again we have one match from the Super League on Thursday evening and it comes from Belle Vue as Wakefield Trinity host the Warrington Wolves in what looks to be a competitive opener to the latest round of matches.

Both sides have made positive starts to their campaigns which means we should be in for a good battle to open up the weekend. Both teams will want the two points and are good enough to get them.

Wakefield Trinity

Trinity go into the match with three wins from their previous four matches in the competition so they are a side hitting form at the right time. I guess you could argue that they haven’t beaten a huge amount in that time but you should never criticise a team for winning. They are generally a good side in front of their own fans.

I would expect Wakefield to be buzzing on and off the pitch here with the new that broke on Thursday about how they have purchased their stadium, which is a huge thing for any sports club. They have key players capable of unlocking the doors of a defence and if they all have good games Wakefield will be dangerous here.

Warrington Wolves

But for a one point defeat in France a few weeks ago, the Warrington Wolves would be going into this match with a perfect record for the season and after a tough end to the last campaign they have to be applauded for that. We often see in sport that hangovers can linger into the next season but Warrington have not let that happen.

The good thing for the Wolves is I think there is still plenty to come for them, especially in attacking areas and that should ensure that complacency doesn’t set in and that they keep focused on their goals. The other positive for the Wolves is that defensively they look as strong as they have for a while, so there is plenty to like about them.

Team News

Wakefield have been rocked by the news that Tom Johnstone will miss the remainder of the season with the injury he sustained last week while Bill Tupou also misses out here. Danny Kirmond is suspended leaving Max Jowitt, Keegan Hirst and Jordan Baldwinson to come in.

Warrington Wolves have a suspension of their own with Ben Westwood given a huge four-match ban for a headbutt against Wigan last week. Harvey Livett makes it back into the squad to replace the veteran forward.

Betting

I think the injuries that Wakefield Trinity have is going to play into the hands of the Warrington Wolves here. I wouldn’t necessarily say that I think the visitors are going to run away with things here but I don’t think they will be too strong for the Yorkshire outfit, even allowing for how tough a place it is to go and win.

Warrington have really impressed me this term and if they can keep their performance levels up I expect them to win this. I’m never surprised when Wakefield are competitive though. You always have to battle for wins at Belle Vue and that is what I expect Warrington to have to do here but I do believe they can win by a narrow margin.
