Super League XXV – Friday 23rd October Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

Another round of matches in the Super League concludes on Friday evening as a second double header in as many days takes place at the Totally Wicked Stadium as the season starts its closing stages with the Grand Final now confirmed for November 27.

Three of the four sides on show on Friday evening will have more than one eye on making it to the KCOM Stadium for the big showdown and we might get the picture becoming a little clearer as to who it could be over the course of the night.

Where to watch

The double header will be shown live on Sky Sports Arena with the build up to both matches beginning at 5.15pm and the opening game starting at 5.30pm. The second match starts at 7.45pm.

Wigan Warriors vs Salford Red Devils (17.30)

The opening match of the night sees the Wigan Warriors taking on the beaten Challenge Cup finalists Salford Red Devils in what would normally have been a very good looking contest but for the doubts over how much the Red Devils will have recovered.

Salford will go one of two ways between now and the end of the season. It will either get sacked off as they struggle to motivate themselves after the disappointment of last weekend or that loss will fuel a fire and they’ll fight really hard to make something of their last few games. They are a proud bunch and I hope it is the latter because they have entertained royally over the last 18 months, but nobody could blame them if they are licking their wounds here.

Wigan Warriors watched on last week as the Red Devils gave everything they had at Wembley and they’ll be confident of another success here but their attack doesn’t convince me I have to say. Salford are likely to make a couple of changes but I’m not convinced they’ll be significantly weak here and although I expect Wigan to win the match I’m not sure they win it by more than a dozen. Wigan have only won two matches by more than a dozen since lockdown while Salford’s only defeat by that margin came after they spent three weeks fighting Covid. I like Wigan to win but not by more than a dozen.

St Helens vs Leeds Rhinos (19.45)

Usually the match of the round would be the final game when the champions St Helens take on the new Challenge Cup winners Leeds Rhinos but that might not be the case here as Leeds have chosen to rest a number of their Wembley stars.

While Leeds are not as young in their squad as they were in the match prior to the Challenge Cup final, there are a number of youngsters in their 21 and some of them will have to play here. St Helens are clearly overwhelming favourites as a result of that but they’ve been surprised by weakened Hull KR and Wakefield sides recently and had to pull out big things late on to win so I’m not really keen on chasing a massive handicap on them. If Leeds are a bit stronger than forecast I might end up covering them but at this time I’m happy to leave the game.
