Super League XXV – Friday 30th October Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The latest round of matches in the Super League continues on Friday evening when we have one of the standout fixtures of the season as well as another match which could still carry significance in the race for the play-offs with rumours continuing to do the rounds that the format will be changed.

The top of the table will be in focus throughout the night and after a late change in the schedule we have two matches which should be full of quality and entertainment, both of which can be watched live on Sky Sports.

The Format

There has been a change in the format of the season. The ‘loop matches’ and Magic Weekend have bitten the dust so teams will play 20 regular season matches ahead of the playoffs. Scrums are a thing of the past for the remainder of the season. They are being replaced with a tap restart to prevent the spread of the virus. The ‘six to go’ rule that is being used in NRL is also coming into the Super League with more eyes likely to be on the game with other sports yet to get back up and running. It has since been announced that the Super League table will be based on point percentage rather than total points.

Warrington Wolves vs Huddersfield Giants (17.30)

The opening match of the night sees two teams who were expecting to face different sides this week in action when the Warrington Wolves take on the Huddersfield Giants with the Wolves looking to push themselves deeper into the upper echelons of the table.

Warrington have had the luxury of a couple of weeks off since their last match having had the bye week and then seeing their trip to Catalans postponed so you’ve got to think they are going to be in good touch here but the Giants haven’t played in more than a week so they have also had a chance to recharge the batteries and get themselves up for playing, although they were expected to be facing Castleford rather than Warrington. It makes sense to expect Warrington to win this match but Huddersfield have shown they can hang around and given the uncertainty of the late change in opposition I’m happy to sit this one out.

St Helens vs Wigan Warriors (19.45)

The second match of the night is very much the main course as the two big rivals meet for the second time in a matter of a few weeks when St Helens take on Wigan Warriors in a match which could very well be a rehearsal for the Grand Final next month.

St Helens have looked in awesome form since the restart but they will face one of their tougher tests here and a much tougher assignment than when these two teams last met when Wigan rested everyone with the Challenge Cup semi-final on the horizon. That might add a little fire to their bellies here and there is no question that the Warriors will be up for this one. I’ve previously had concerns over their attacking play but they put them to bed with a fine display at both ends of the pitch.

This one has all the hallmarks of being one of those classic derby contests where no quarter is going to be given and it will be fascinating to see who comes out on top. This feels like a match that will be decided on the smaller margins so the best bet could be to jump on the Warriors with the eight point start as the feeling is this will be a one score game regardless of who comes out on top in it.
