Super League XXVI – Friday 30th April Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Super League weekend continues on Friday evening with another three matches and after a strong clash to open up the latest round of matches, we should get plenty of decent action over the course of these games too.

We know that every win matters this season as the league is being determined on win percentage this term. We will get to see one of those wins earned on TV on Friday evening while the other two matches are on the Our League streaming service.

Leigh Centurions vs St Helens (18.00)

One of the two matches on the streaming console sees the bottom placed side going into the round of matches in Leigh Centurions hosting the table toppers and defending champions St Helens in what looks like a bit of a mismatch on paper.

That is exactly how the bookmakers seem to see it too with Saints quoted to cover 28 points on the handicap which is a massive gap to bridge, particularly this early in the season. That is a reflection on how good St Helens have looked in attack as well as the tightness of their defence and it also highlights the fact that the Centurions do look a little out of their depth at Super League level. Leigh did keep tight order with Wigan in the opening match of the season but they’ve been well beaten regularly since then. If you forced me into a bet I’d tentatively side with St Helens to cover this line but better bets lie elsewhere on the card.

Wakefield Trinity vs Catalans Dragons (18.00)

The other game on the streaming console is the one at Belle Vue where Wakefield Trinity go in search of a first win of the season when they host a Catalans Dragons side who will be looking to bounce back from their first defeat of the campaign last week.

Trinity have had spells in each of their matches where they have been more than competitive but then the moments in them where their levels drop everything has unravelled and that would be a real concern for them and their fans going into this one against a Dragons side who lost to the Warrington Wolves last week, which might only have fired them up and focused their minds for this match. The only thing that seems to hamper the Dragons is their discipline but if they can keep their heads they look a much better side than Wakey and can win this one covering a converted try in the process.

Salford Red Devils vs Castleford Tigers (19.45 – Sky Sports Arena)

The televised match on Friday night sees the Salford Red Devils taking on the Castleford Tigers in what should be an entertaining match between two sides who have different beginnings to the campaign.

Salford have largely struggled this term but they did pick up a win last week which they will hope will provide the momentum to kick on and win this one. The Tigers were beaten by Wigan Warriors last week so they will be aiming to bounce back here. These two meet in the Challenge Cup quarter final next weekend so there is an extra dynamic to this match and it will be interesting to see if there are any tactical changes as a result. I doubt there will be but with other sides looking so good in Super League it might be that the cup is even more significant for both teams.

Like the Dragons, Castleford are being asked to cover six points in this match and I think that is well within their reach. Their three Super League wins have all covered this total and there is no shame in losing to the Wigan Warriors as we saw on Thursday evening. Salford beat Leigh last week but I’d need to see another performance from them before I believe they are back to normal. They barely landed an attacking blow in their other three matches and leaked plenty of points. I think Cas will be too good for Salford here.
