Super League XXVI – Friday 9th July Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

Another set of matches begins in the Super League on Friday night when a couple of the potential title challengers get the chance to showcase their credentials once again on what should be a top evening of rugby league.

We have one of these two matches on the TV to enjoy and as always there will be plenty of ways of keeping up to date with the other game be it social media or the radio commentaries. The TV coverage is likely to have updates too.

Leeds Rhinos vs Catalans Dragons (19.45 – Sky Sports Arena)

The televised match on Friday night comes from Headingley where an in form Leeds Rhinos take on the rampant league leaders Catalans Dragons in what should be a cracking match if both play how they have been recently.

The Rhinos have won their last four matches which includes a good win over the Warrington Wolves earlier in the week and they will fancy their chances of causing Catalans some issues but this isn’t the Dragons who have struggled on the road for much of their Super League existence. This team are used to all the travelling and it doesn’t affect them as much as it did. They have won their last seven matches in the Super League and will be full of confidence heading into this one. Leeds have some players back for this match with Luke Gale and Cameron Smith among those to return but the Catalans are at full strength and unlike Leeds didn’t play in midweek so they’ll be the fresher of the two sides. I think that can be reflected on the scoreboard where I expect the Dragons to win and cover four points.

Wakefield Trinity vs St Helens (19.45)

The match away from the television cameras comes at Belle Vue where a Wakefield Trinity side host the champions St Helens in a match where there is a need to win for both teams albeit for different reasons.

Saints are trying to chase down the Catalans Dragons at the top of the table while Wakefield are looking for a burst of form which will see them push for a place in the play-offs. I think the consensus is that St Helens will win this match and I’d be inclined to agree with that but they are being asked to cover a double digit handicap. That might still happen but I’m a little wary of taking teams to cover big handicaps with the schedule the way it is as there is no reason for a team to coast when they are in front which brings the back door bust into play. I’m more confident in the other match so that can act as my betting interest in the night.
