Super League XXVII – Saturday 21st May Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The last matches in the Super League prior to the break for the Challenge Cup final next weekend take place on Saturday, a day where the sport is once again under the microscope of terrestrial TV as it looks to showcase itself to the world.

There are two matches taking place on Saturday. The first of those is live on the TV with the second one needing to be followed either on social media or via radio commentaries and updates for those who don’t have a ticket for the match.

Hull KR vs Catalans Dragons (12.30 – Channel 4)

The televised match on Saturday comes from Craven Park where Hull KR will be looking to get things back on track when they host a Catalans Dragons side who look like they are just beginning to find the sort of form that took them to the Grand Final last season.

The Dragons have won four of their last five matches and in that time they have put Castleford Tigers and Warrington Wolves to the sword and will be eyeing up another big win. Hull KR have lost their last two in the Super League and were beaten in the Challenge Cup in the middle of that run as well. This has all coincided with Tony Smith bizarrely stating that he is leaving the club at the end of the season. It has also come at the same time as a terrible injury list which will see KR without the likes of Brad Takairangi, Jordan Abdull, Matt Parcell and Mikey Lewis for this match – potentially their four most important players. The Dragons also have a few injuries but nothing that they haven’t contended with over the last few weeks. The worry for Hull KR here is they have scored just four points in their last three matches, being nilled twice in the two Super League games. They shipped 32 points to Castleford last weekend and could be on for another beating here. Catalans look like they are on a roll now and although their away form leaves a bit to be desired this term, the absences Hull KR have plays right into the hands of the French side. I expect them to cover 10 points here.

Hull FC vs Wigan Warriors (15.00)

When the televised action concludes on Saturday the attention will move to the other side of the city as Hull FC play host to the Wigan Warriors, who could be forgiven for having other things on their mind apart from the Super League.

That is because they play in the Challenge Cup final next week and you would imagine that will take their priority here. There is no indication that Matt Peet is planning on resting everyone but you would think the eyes of the Wigan side will be on Tottenham next week. That is only natural. That should play into the hands of Hull FC but they haven’t really shown me that they can take on the best and come out on top this season yet. This is a chance to do that but I took on Wigan ahead of the Challenge Cup semi-final and paid the price and I’m in no rush to do it again, especially with the danger they appear to be possessing in attack at the minute.
