Super League XXVII – Saturday 2nd July Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The latest round of matches in the Super League continues on Saturday with another three fixtures taking place and with Magic Weekend looming on the horizon, all six teams on show will be looking for a confidence boost to take into that next week.

One of the three matches is live for us to enjoy on the TV and then the other two matches will carry plenty of updates either on social media or through the radio commentaries for those who aren’t going to the games.

Hull FC vs Leeds Rhinos (15.00)

The opening match to kick off comes from the MKM Stadium where Hull FC will look to rebound from a very ordinary showing last week when they welcome the Leeds Rhinos to town in what you feel is a big clash for both sides.

Hull FC remain in the play-off places but they are going the wrong way while Leeds Rhinos have their sights set on making the top six but a defeat here will see them drop seven points behind their opponents so there are plenty of incentives for both sides to win. There is no getting away from how clueless Hull FC looked in attack last week and there is nobody returning to improve in that department. To be fair to Leeds, they were beaten by St Helens last week so while it wasn’t ideal, it wasn’t exactly the worst result in the world. I think they look in better shape to me at the minute but they’re a bit skinny to rely on.

Catalans Dragons vs St Helens (17.00 – Sky Sports Arena)

The televised offering on Saturday afternoon comes from France where the Catalans Dragons play host to St Helens in what is a repeat of what was an intense and competitive Grand Final at the end of last season.

The two have met twice since then with the Saints winning by 20 on the opening night of this season at the Totally Wicked Stadium and then perhaps more relevant is the fact they won by 16 points in France in the Challenge Cup too. I think Saints will complete the hat trick of wins here too. They look unstoppable at the minute and it looks like their loss to Wigan in the Challenge Cup semi-final has fired them up in a big way. They will be out for revenge for that at Magic next weekend but this is a game where they can lay another marker down and that is generally what champion sides do. Catalans have lost two of their last three matches and had to go to golden point extra time last week. One or two injuries are just beginning to hurt the Dragons and you need to be at full strength against St Helens. I think Catalans will need more than just the conditions to see off a rampant St Helens.

Toulouse Olympique vs Hull KR (20.00)

The final match of the day also comes from France where Toulouse Olympique look to give themselves a survival lifeline ahead of a season defining match next week when they host a Hull KR side who are slumping badly currently.

Toulouse have lost their last four matches and are now six points adrift of Wakefield Trinity who they face at the Magic Weekend next week. They were wiped out by the Wigan Warriors last week but prior to that they were competitive in losses to Castleford, St Helens and Huddersfield. That should inspire confidence in them as they take on a Hull KR side who have lost six of their last seven matches in all competitions and for whom injuries are continuing to hurt. Hull KR have such limited options at the minute that they could only name a 20-man travelling party rather than the usual 21 so I would favour Toulouse here but the odds reflect the struggles of the Robins so I’ll leave this one alone.
