Super League XXVIII – Friday 17th March Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The latest round of matches in the Super League XXVIII season continues on Friday night when three more fixtures take place on an evening where six teams get the chance to pick up a couple of points to boost their position in the table.

One of the three matches is live on the TV for us to enjoy and have a watch of. The other two come with no TV coverage but you would imagine we will get regular updates throughout the course of the live game. We’ll start the preview with that live game.

St Helens vs Hull FC (20.00 – Sky Sports Arena)

The champions St Helens are on show in the live game on Friday night when they look to turnaround their form against a Hull FC side who head to the Totally Wicked Stadium off the back of shipping a ridiculous 60 points last week.

That was to a Salford Red Devils side who were rampant on the day and while St Helens haven’t been flourishing in attack this season, there is more than enough about them to take advantage of a Hull defence which has leaked a little too much prior to that demolition last week. On the flip side of that, St Helens still maintain their defensive solidity even without Kristian Wolff in charge. Although they lost their last two matches, they were winning both with enough in hand until they started losing players to yellow cards and red cards. If they can keep their discipline in this match then I expect them to pull away and get back on track with a comfortable win.

Huddersfield Giants vs Wigan Warriors (19.45)

It might be that the pick of the matches comes from the John Smith’s Stadium on Friday night where two genuine title challengers meet as the Huddersfield Giants play host to a Wigan Warriors side who slipped up for the second time last week.

Huddersfield are a match behind the Warriors but have two wins to their name coming in here after falling out of the blocks when they had a competitive disadvantage against the Warrington Wolves in what turned out to be their opening game of the season. Wigan started with a defeat at Hull KR and suffered another against the Catalans Dragons last week with wins over Wakefield and Castleford in between. Those wins are pretty easy to pick apart given the struggles of those two opponents so you just wonder exactly what Wigan are this term. My gut feel is that Huddersfield might be the ones to be on in this match but I’m not as confident about it as I’d like to be.

Warrington Wolves vs Leigh Leopards (20.00)

The other match on Friday evening comes from the Halliwell Jones Stadium where the Warrington Wolves will look to continue their unbeaten start to the season when they play the Super League new boys Leigh Leopards.

Warrington were under plenty of pressure heading into this season after a shambles of a campaign last term. To their credit, they have come out of the blocks firing and wins over Leeds Rhinos, Huddersfield Giants, Salford Red Devils and Hull KR have them top of the table early in the piece. Leigh Leopards started life in Super League with losses to the Salford Red Devils and the Catalans Dragons but wins over Hull KR and St Helens have them on an upward trajectory and at least means they can head to Warrington and have a real go with nothing to lose. I’d expect Warrington to win but they are being asked to cover a decent handicap when winning is probably the main focus so I’ll leave that one alone.
