Super League XXVIII – Saturday 1st April Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The Super League XXVIII weekend continues on Saturday when another two matches take place in the competition with four sides looking for a win to take into rivals week over the Easter weekend with them.

One of the two matches are live on the TV for us to enjoy over the course of the early part of the afternoon and then social media or the local radio commentaries will keep us updated on the other one later in the day.

Warrington Wolves vs Hull FC (13.00 – Channel 4)

The first match of the two on the day comes from the Halliwell Jones Stadium where Tony Smith prepares for the first of two meetings with his former clubs in as many weeks as Hull FC head across the Pennines to take on the Warrington Wolves.

Warrington have begun the season like they were expected to play the previous one. They are muscling up and doing it tough on defence and they are putting up big attacking numbers and you get the feeling that they are going to be tough to beat on home soil here. Hull FC certainly need to be at their very best to contain this Warrington attacking juggernaut and their defence does worry me I have to admit. It isn’t just the 60 points they shipped to Salford a few weeks ago, I’m just not sure of the structure and the foundation of that defence. I do like Hull as an attacking force though and Warrington can be guilty of being dragged out of position defensively so I’m expecting a high scoring match here. Warrington have put up 36 points or more in four of their six matches and if they add another one to that tally we should coast beyond 44.5 points in this one.

Catalans Dragons vs Castleford Tigers (17.00)

The one match which isn’t in front of any TV cameras in the UK on Saturday is the one which sees the Catalans Dragons looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season last week when they host the Castleford Tigers in Perpignan.

Catalans were pretty well beaten by Leeds Rhinos in the end and that form wasn’t exactly franked on Friday night. It was really worrying how quickly the French side ran out of troops last week and that might be a concern for this one. I don’t think it is a concern in terms of Catalans losing, I think they’ll be smarting at giving such a solid advantage away but in terms of covering a hefty handicap it could be significant. There really isn’t a lot to like about the Castleford Tigers on the green this season but this is a roster which if it performs has the quality and the depth to trouble most teams in the competition. It isn’t happening for the Tigers at the minute and usually that would lead me to take the Dragons on the handicap but last week has put me right off. I’ll leave this one alone.
