Super League XXVIII – Sunday 9th July Matches Tips, TV and Betting Preview

The latest round of matches in the Super League season conclude on Sunday and they do so with what should be a couple of pearling games which could go further to determining the make up of the top six come the end of the campaign.

We don’t usually get a Sunday TV offering but such is the magnitude of one of the matches we get one here. The other match comes well after the coverage concludes so it will be social media and radio commentaries to stay on top of that one.

Hull KR vs Hull FC (12.00 – Sky Sports Arena)

The first match of the two on Sunday is a huge match for the two Hull teams when Hull KR host their bitter rivals Hull FC at Craven Park where it could very well be that the season for both of these teams is on the line.

Just nine matches remain after these games and if Hull FC lose this they will be at least six points off the top six and potentially eight so they are going to need something of a massive turnaround if they are to be in the play-offs. Hull KR are in a much better position in that regard. A win here moves them into the top six for a few hours at least and might well have them back on track again after a run of just one win in their last five in Super League, and even that was a par for the course victory over Wakefield Trinity. Hull FC were beaten by the Catalans Dragons last week but they have been much more consistent over the last 10 rounds of so which makes me think they are the team to be with here. Hull KR are still hit hard by injuries. Obviously Lachlan Coote isn’t around anymore and Jordan Abdull and Elliot Minchella will miss this one as will Fouad Yaha who has gone back to France. Hull FC’s last three Super League defeats have come against Catalans, Leigh and Salford, three of the better sides in the league. The Black and Whites have Adam Swift, Tex Hoy and Liam Sutcliffe all named in their squad for this one so they look stronger on the form book and in personnel and I think they’re value to cause the derby upset.

Salford Red Devils vs Leeds Rhinos (15.00)

The final match of the week comes from the AJ Bell Stadium where Salford Red Devils will be looking to hold onto their place in the top six when they play host to a Leeds Rhinos side who will go in search of a third successive win.

Leeds have now picked up two straight wins to revoke hopes of a repeat of a season ago when they came from well outside of the top six in the second half of the campaign to eventually end up at the Grand Final at Old Trafford. The Rhinos know that a win here will move them to within two points of a place in the top six but they will be six points adrift with defeat so this is important for them. Salford have lost their last three matches and are seeing teams begin to back up in behind them so they will know the importance of ending that slump here. If you was going by form you would back Leeds here but they have Blake Austin suspended while Salford get Andy Ackers, Brodie Croft and Ryan Brierley back to bolster their squad and they should improve massively as a result. My gut tells me that Salford are overpriced here but taking Leeds on at this stage of a season hasn’t been entirely profitable recently so I’ll sit this one out tentatively.
