The latest round of matches in the Super League XXX continues on Friday night when another two games are played out as three of the teams who made the playoffs last term are on show on what should be a decent evening of rugby.
Once again, both of the matches will be live on TV for us to be able to enjoy so if you have a bet on either of the games then there is no reason why you won’t be able to follow the progress of it from start to finish.
St Helens vs Hull KR (20.00 – Sky Sports Action)
The pick of the two matches takes us to the Totally Wicked Stadium for the clash between two perfect teams in the competition so far when St Helens go up against the beaten Grand Final team of last term in Hull KR.
St Helens have won their three matches so far but you can ask genuine questions over what they have beaten. They faced a Salford reserve side in the opening round of the campaign and then a Castleford Tigers team who look a little out of their depth. Their match last week against Wakefield Trinity was probably their toughest test to date, and it was one which they passed, but you wouldn’t expect them to finish in the top six either so we could find out a lot more about St Helens in this one. Hull KR probably haven’t beaten anything either. They have seen off the same three opponents although it was a stronger Salford team that they beat last week. That win over Salford has come at a cost as Rhyse Martin has joined Mikey Lewis and others on the sidelines and that could be significant. That probably does make St Helens the favourites here but whether they are a converted try favourites remains to be seen. I wouldn’t want to back them to cover it but at the same time I’d like to see how the injuries are going to impact Hull KR so I’ll leave the main game alone.

Castleford Tigers vs Salford Red Devils (20.00 – Sky Sports+)
The other match on Friday evening sees two sides who are looking for their first win of the campaign battling it out when the Castleford Tigers go up against the team who are making the headlines for all of the wrong reasons at the minute in Salford Red Devils.
Castleford Tigers have lost their matches and in two of them they weren’t really that competitive. They gave Hull KR a good game in the opening round but then tame losses against St Helens and the Leeds Rhinos followed. They have probably been more competitive in those matches than Salford have been against the same opponents and with all that is going on off the pitch in Salford that probably isn’t a surprise. There were fears that because of those issues, the Red Devils would have to name the squad that they utilised in the opening week against St Helens once again but thankfully for the sake of the competition that isn’t the case and they look strong enough on paper. That said though, they looked strong enough last week and got battered by Hull KR in a match where they barely showed up. They have had 36 hours extra to recover though and if they are in a position where they are giving their all then this is a match that they could easily win because Castleford don’t look anything special, as we saw in the Challenge Cup where they beaten by Bradford Bulls. There has been a bit of money on Salford in the lead up to this game and if they are at it then I can certainly see them coming out on top here. I still think man for man they are the better side. Clearly there are risks with it but at the prices I’m prepared to take the visitors here.
