We have three more matches in the Super League XXX season on Saturday with the race for the playoffs and the battle for top spot very much in the spotlight across another decent looking day of rugby league.
I’m sure everybody knows by now that all of the matches in the Super League this season are available to watch on TV for those who are not going to the matches but two games clash so you’ll need a couple of devices to watch everything.
Warrington Wolves vs Hull FC (17.30 – Sky Sports Action)
The main game on the TV comes from the Halliwell Jones Stadium where a troubled and injury ravaged Warrington Wolves welcome Hull FC to town for what is a big game for both teams but potentially for different reasons.
At some point something is going to have to give for Warrington. Injuries are a big issue but you get the impression that they need a win soon to keep the dogs at bay. Hull FC are a much improved side this season and you get the feeling that they would enjoy piling the pressure on Warrington, who could yet still be a top six rival if they get their injury situation sorted out. Warrington have lost five of their last six matches so it is hard to trust them to win any match at the minute let alone cover more than a converted try. Hull FC will be better with Will Pryce in the side and his absence might allow Warrington to win the game, although I certainly wouldn’t be surprised if they don’t, but covering more than a full score just feels like a tough ask. I’ll play Hull FC on the 6.5 handicap here. The Black and Whites have won three of their last four, all of which were on the road, and they have already won at Warrington before the Wolves’ injury crisis hit this season so I like Hull FC on the handicap here.

Catalans Dragons vs Huddersfield Giants (17.30 – Sky Sports+)
Two sides who are already close to needing snookers to make anything of their season meet in the south of France on Saturday evening when the heavily fading force of the Catalans Dragons welcome a struggling Huddersfield Giants.
The Giants do head to France off the back of a win over Warrington last weekend and will look to take advantage of another struggling opponent here. The bottom has come right out of the Dragons in the last couple of months. They go into this one off the back of seven successive defeats in all competitions and in those outings they have scored a grand total of just 54 points, 24 of which came in the first of them so in their last six matches they are averaging just five points per game, which isn’t going to get the job done against anyone let alone at this level. Catalans can only really be odds on based on reputation rather than form but the question is whether the Giants can be trusted to beat them. They only have two wins all season, one of which was on neutral territory at the Magic Weekend and the other was last week. This offers up a chance for another Huddersfield win but I just can’t bring myself to back them. I’m in no rush to take Catalans at odds on though so this is an easy one to leave alone.
Castleford Tigers vs Wigan Warriors (20.00 – Sky Sports+ & BBC iPlayer)
The last of the three matches on Saturday comes in the late kick off as the champions Wigan Warriors look to bounce back from their loss against Wakefield Trinity last week when they travel to The Jungle to take on Castleford Tigers.
This hasn’t been the season that the Tigers would have wanted. They would have expected to have more than four wins on the board at this stage but to their credit, two of those victories have come in their last five matches so they look to be improving as the campaign goes on. One of those wins was against Salford Red Devils though which we can’t really use as a form guide so how much faith we have in Castleford is open to debate. Wigan arrive in Castleford a little out of sorts though. They edged out a poor Huddersfield side a couple of weeks ago and then lost at Wakefield last week and they could do with a convincing showing again to build their confidence back up. I’d expect Wigan to win the match but the last two weeks would question whether they will cover a handicap line in the 20 point range. I’m not sure I trust Castleford to be that competitive, especially if they fall behind, so this is another one for me to leave alone.
