T20 World Cup 2021 – India Team Guide and Betting Preview

India won the inaugural T20 World Cup back in 2007 but they haven’t been able to get their hands on the trophy again since. They head into the 2021 staging as the favourites to regain that crown but they were strongly fancied for the 50 over World Cup a couple of years ago and never made the final. This looks like too good a squad to go without winning anything.

Team Guide

India were due to be hosting this tournament but have had to move it to the UAE which would have been a negative had the second half of the Indian Premier League season not been in this part of the world recently. There is a school of thought that conditions will suit them but I’m not sure they are necessarily the conditions their batsmen would thrive in but they shouldn’t be too inconvenienced by them at the same time.

India look pretty strong with the ball which is very much a positive but if I was being picky one or two of their batters have struggled for form and they always seem to be a genuine batsman light in this competition. If they can ensure they put enough runs on the board then they should be tough to beat. They look to have a very comfortable group to build their way into the tournament with which might be crucial.

Betting

It is hard to bet on the India team markets because we haven’t really got a full knowledge of their team selection for the opening match but I’m going to take a chance that Varun Chakravarthy gets in from the off and if he does he looks a fairly big price at 7/1 to be the leading Indian bowler in the tournament. Of course the market is dominated by Jasprit Bumrah and that is fair enough but he still looks a little skinny to me, particularly should India have this group won early and he sits out either of the last two against the minnows in the group.

The fact Scotland and Namibia are in this section makes me think that a spinner has a chance because we saw in the first phase that both those sides struggle against good quality spin and they won’t have faced Chakravarthy before either. We saw the Kolkata spinner have a wonderful second part of the IPL so he arrives here in good form and might just be the value alternative to Bumrah in a competitive market.
