Team Guide
Scotland have already broken new ground making it through to the Super 12 stage of the event. They were probably expected to get this far given that they were in a group with Oman and Papua New Guinea but to win their first round section after overcoming Bangladesh in their opening match will give them the belief they can do something very special over the next couple of weeks, particularly as they are in the weaker of the two groups. They have the two easier opponents on paper first so could build up a head of steam.
Scotland are going to need to bat better than they did in that first round because you would imagine their bowling is going to be under a lot of pressure over the course of the Super 12s group. If they can find their way to bowling first and chasing scores they might yet be able to take a significant scalp with them here. It is hard to see Scotland making it into the semi-finals but never write off a team who are on a free roll.
Betting
Josh Davey is a country mile clear in the bowling list and given where he bowls in the innings I certainly don’t see him being caught unless maybe Brad Wheal has a couple of dream spells but given that I wouldn’t expect Scotland to take that many wickets in this stage I think Davey’s lead is pretty much safe as houses, as the odds would suggest. What might not be as safe though is Richie Berrington’s advantage in the batting list.
He ended the first round with 103 runs, 21 ahead of Matthew Cross and a further 18 clear of George Munsey with nobody else within 50 runs of the leader. Kyle Coetzer shouldn’t be written off in this market but I’ve always liked Cross technically and he might well be the one they all look to bat around in this stage. He bats higher in the order than Berrington which might be significant and is only 21 behind yet he’s four times the price of Berrington. Munsey has to be respected too but 4/1 Cross will do me.
