T20 World Cup 2022 – Scotland Team Guide and Betting Preview

Scotland will be appearing at a second T20 World Cup in as many years after qualifying for the one in the UAE last year. Their performance there where they came out of the first round group meant they had automatic entry into this tournament but unfortunately for them they couldn’t go deep enough to escape having to begin their campaign in the first round. Nevertheless, they are here and have the chance to once again show that they can deliver the goods on the world stage.

Team Guide

Like all the teams in this group it is hard to determine just how many matches Scotland are going to be around for. They could go out in the group and only have three games or they could qualify and have at least eight. If they are going to qualify then you would imagine they will need their experienced players to step up and be counted, especially their bowlers. They have some good county cricketers in their attack and conditions should suit them better than the UAE ones did.

Scotland also have a fairly solid batting unit. They have a couple of all-rounders which extends their batting and that will be needed if they are going to make it out of the group. Scotland tend to be a team who rise to the big occasion and they will be hoping that they can live up to that tag once again. Coming out of the group would be a good achievement as it would secure their qualification for the next one of these and that has to be the primary aim.

Betting

Given that we don’t know exactly how many matches Scotland are going to play in this competition it makes betting on their team markets a pretty tough proposition. There isn’t really a standout in their batting department. There are a few players who could top score who all have tournament experience but if Scotland do only play three matches then one big score could skew the whole thing so I’m reluctant to get involved in that.

I do think the bowler market is a little easier to work out though. I don’t think we are going to see much spin in Hobart, especially with a lot of rain around ahead of the tournament, so I have this between the seamers and Josh Davey and Brad Wheal in particular. Both players have had big impacts in the T20 Blast over the last two seasons and have played for teams who have made the final of that competition. I just think Davey might be a little more reliable and have slightly harder to work out variations so I’ll back him to be their top bowler.
