The Hundred 2021 – London Spirit vs Northern Invincibles Tips and Betting Preview

We are back at Lord’s for The Hundred on Tuesday when the London Spirit once again look to get off the mark in terms of wins this term when they welcome the Northern Superchargers to the iconic St John’s Wood venue.

The Spirit have bungled a couple of opportunities to win their last two matches and remain without a win while the Superchargers have a win and a washout on their ledger. They still aren’t in a great position though so both teams will be eager to win here.

London Spirit

The way the London Spirit fell apart in the previous match against the Southern Brave you almost had to feel sorry for them. Part of the reason for that was it was so obvious to see it was coming but you could tell there was just no way to stop it. They need to take the positives from that and think that was the second match they should have won rather than the negatives of it being the second match that they’ve thrown away.

The one thing the Spirit do have is plenty of bowling options for Eoin Morgan to utilise. If there is a concern it is that their seamers haven’t really done it for them to date and you sense if they are going to turn their fortunes around then that is the very least that is going to have to change. The other thing that needs to change is someone from the middle order needs to take some responsibility to finish off the innings, but when none of them are in form that isn’t going to be easy.

Northern Superchargers

It hadn’t been the greatest start to the season for the Northern Superchargers but they came good in their last match. They deserve a bit of credit for that actually. Even though the Oval Invincibles put up a sub-par score, the Superchargers were chasing knowing that if they didn’t get home their campaign would have been pretty much done before it got started. The fact they can deliver the goods under that sort of pressure shouldn’t be understated.

There is still improvement to come from the Northern Superchargers but at the same time there is also still some concerns as well. The main concern you would have over them is their batting depth so it might be that Ben Raine comes in for this one to solve that. The one thing they have on their side are three very good spin options and if we assume this will be a used pitch that could be vital. The other thing they have is Chris Lynn who has showed he is prepared to dig in as well as play the expansive innings.

Key Men

The London Spirit desperately need someone to deliver the goods for them in the middle order and as captain the onus is probably on Eoin Morgan to stand up and be counted. He likes to play an aggressive game but someone has to rein it in for the team cause.

Harry Brook has been in phenomenal form in all competitions this season and with the Northern Superchargers looking like they are a batsman light in their side the emphasis will be on the youngster to continue to put up big runs.

Betting

The money is coming for the London Spirit but I hate backing sides who have shown they don’t know how to win, or are not comfortable when it comes to the tight situations which you need to have the better of in order to win. I’m not for one minute suggesting that the Northern Superchargers are the perfect team and don’t have problems themselves but I think they match up well to the London Spirit and as such I take them to come out on top here.

The only two batsmen who look in any sort of form for the London Spirit are the opening pair of Adam Rossington and Josh Inglis but the Superchargers have David Willey with the new ball and I’d be surprised if they bowl as ordinary with the new ball as the Southern Brave did against the Spirit in the previous match. If the Superchargers bring Callum Parkinson in they have three very good spin options, the batting line up in better form of the two and the confidence of winning last time out. I’ll take the visitors here.
