The Hundred 2021 – Trent Rockets vs Northern Superchargers Tips and Betting Preview

The matches are coming thick and fast in The Hundred at the minute with the next one taking place on Monday night at Trent Bridge where the Trent Rockets play host to the Northern Superchargers in a tasty looking clash.

The Rockets were probably the most convincing winners in the opening round of games while the Superchargers were beaten in their first match so these two teams head into this one off the back of differing fortunes so far.

Trent Rockets

We always say that a perfect performance doesn’t exist in the first match of a new series. It certainly doesn’t exist in the opening game of a new format but you would have to say the Trent Rockets got very close to delivering one in their opening match. They got on top early and kept the foot on the throat of the Southern Brave and in the end they ran out very comfortable winners. If there is more to come from them, which there should be, then they are already in a great position.

The Rockets had a nice mix of seamers and spinners in their opening match and when you consider that Rashid Khan didn’t take a wicket in the match there is definitely more to come from them. I also like the mix they have with the bat too. They have a brutal opening partnership and then a couple of what you would call glue batsmen to set up a platform if they need to or rebuild the innings if things have gone wrong. Crucially, they also have plenty of batting depth which we have seen is important in this competition.

Northern Superchargers

You felt the Northern Superchargers were always fighting against the tide a little in their opening match with the Welsh Fire over the weekend. They allowed the Fire to get off to a good start but then showed good quality to bring them back a little, only to allow them to get away at the end of the innings. When they had the bat in hand they had to recover from a slow start. They did that but then they were just found wanting when the crunch time came.

The Superchargers should have a lot more to come. Chris Lynn won’t have played for a while and then there is Faf du Plessis who is still to come back while Ben Stokes hasn’t been back from an injury of his own for very long so we should see a lot more from the Superchargers as we go along. If there is an area they can improve in it would be in the middle balls with the seamers but that might be harsh considering their opening match was at Headingley.

Key Men

Alex Hales never really got going in that opening match but if you have watched him throughout his career on this ground you will know he rarely goes two matches without delivering a score of note which will be good for the chances of the Trent Rockets here.

Harry Brook took his Vitality Blast form to The Hundred straight away as he struck at almost 200 in his innings in the opening match of the season. He is the sort of player who could go from strength to strength now and could weigh in with plenty here.

Betting

I expect to see a lot of sixes here. In Alex Hales, Ben Stokes and Chris Lynn we have three of the cleanest hitters of a cricket ball in world cricket on show in this match but the support cast is pretty good with the likes of Adam Lyth, Harry Brook, Tom Kohler-Cadmore, David Willey, D’Arcy Short and Tom Moores all capable of giving it a good biff as well. We saw shades of what to expect in the Superchargers first match where they conceded a number of sixes but hit a load more too.

The sixes line for this one is at 11.5 but you only need to go back a week or so for the T20 international here to see what can happen on this ground. Whenever I preview matches here I mention the new stand which has shaved so much off the boundary on this ground and the straight boundaries were never the biggest hits anyway. It is nearly always a good wicket at Trent Bridge and after the mess of Sunday night I’m sure a good wicket will be prepared here. I expect the sixes to flow.
