The Hundred 2023 – Manchester Originals vs Northern Superchargers Tips, TV and Betting Preview

We have another double header of action in The Hundred on Sunday which is absolutely massive for the four teams involved as the race for the knockout stages intensifies. We begin at Old Trafford where the Manchester Originals host the Northern Superchargers.

This is The Hundred version of the Roses clash so there is likely to be a lot of intensity around this game, perhaps even more so with the season probably done for the Superchargers if they lose but whoever wins here will give their qualifying hopes a real shot in the arm.

Where to watch

The match will be shown live and in full on the Sky Cricket channel. The build-up begins at 2pm and this one is a 2.30pm start.

Manchester Originals

The Manchester Originals have been one of the more up and down teams in the competition. When they are good they are very good but unfortunately for them the exact opposite can also be said. They will hope to be very good here and follow up what was an excellent win over the Trent Rockets last time out, as they bid to make it back to the final for the second season in succession having gone down to the Rockets in the title clash last season.

The Manchester Originals have the potential to be brutal with the bat. We haven’t always seen that and when we have it has generally been individual efforts which have got them to a score. If they all come together all sorts of fireworks can take place. The issue for the Originals comes with the ball. It is an attack which can be got after and it has players missing too which is never easy but if they put it all together this is a good team.

Northern Superchargers

The Northern Superchargers saw their hopes of reaching the knockout stages dealt a blow when they went down to the London Spirit last time out. That was their second straight defeat and in a competition with just eight games and the weather the way it was in the early stages teams just can’t afford to lose two on the bounce. They were fairly comfortable defeats and that has left them having to win their last two matches and probably manage their net run rate to be in with a chance of qualifying.

The Superchargers are very similar to the Originals in that they have a batting unit who when they come off can do magical things in terms of the score, but if one or two struggle in the wrong places then they can be vulnerable. The bigger concern is that an all-international bowling attack has gone around the park a couple of times too many. If the Superchargers are to win their last two they are going to need to bowl better as a unit from here on in.

Key Players

Phil Salt went into the last match against the Trent Rockets supposedly out of form but he responded to that talk with some of the cleanest displays of ball striking this relatively new competition has ever seen.

Harry Brook probably had a point to prove at Lord’s having missed out on the England ODI World Cup squad. He continued his good form in that match and it would be a surprise if he doesn’t get stuck into this Originals bowling.

Betting

I’m expecting a high scoring match here because it is quite clear that the batters for both of these teams are pretty brutal when they get going and also both teams don’t just need to win this match but they need to address their net run rate should the potential arise. Both teams have players in their middle order who can clear the ropes to get the job done quickly so I think that boundaries will be the order of the day in this one.

The line is 34.5 which if the likes of Phil Salt gets going like he did in the previous match certainly doesn’t look high enough but this match isn’t all about him in terms of players who can score boundaries. Jos Buttler has kind of gone under the radar but he is a big boundary hitter while the likes of Laurie Evans, Paul Walter, Max Holden, Ashton Turner, Adam Lyth, Tom Banton, Matt Short, Harry Brook, Adam Hose, Saif Zaib and David Wiese can all get the ball to the rope. With not much in either attack to worry about I like the over.
