The Northern Superchargers haven’t really been a factor in either season of The Hundred so far so they head into the third campaign of the relatively new tournament looking to be a lot more competitive than they have been to date. You get the feeling that the fallout with Yorkshire has negatively impacted on the Headingley based outfit so it will be interesting to see if whether them knowing their fate now frees up the Superchargers for bigger and better things this term.

Preview
When you look at the squad put together by the Northern Superchargers there should be plenty of optimism around their hopes and chances this season. It remains to be seen how much they will see of Ben Stokes and having selected him and expected him to play the first two seasons only to be let down certainly hasn’t helped their performances so far. They do look better equipped to deal without him with the likes of David Wiese, Wayne Parnell and Bas de Leede good all-round options.
I think it is fair to say that the Superchargers are likely to be stronger with the bat than the ball but when your home ground is Headingley then that has to be the case. They will need their international bowlers to come to the party but if they do that then there is no reason why this can’t be a more positive season for the Leeds based outfit. Whether they are good enough to be around when the knockout games come along remains to be seen though.

Betting
The Northern Superchargers are one of those teams who have picked potentially three openers in their squad in Tom Banton, Adam Lyth and Matthew Short but with Harry Brook and Adam Hose in the top five you’ve got to think only two of those will play so betting on a top Northern Superchargers batter isn’t the easiest thing in the world. If I was convinced that Harry Brook would 100% bat at three I would take him in a heartbeat but I wouldn’t really want anyone lower than three and without knowing the makeup of the order I’ll sit this market out.
I’m much more comfortable getting involved in the bowler market anyway. Adil Rashid is the favourite in this market but he missed the entire T20 Blast and hasn’t played a competitive game of cricket since April 7 so almost four months. He has to be taken on and with Reece Topley likely to go down injured at some point I think Wayne Parnell is the one to be on at 9/2. He is going to captain the side so we know he’ll play all the matches and looking at the bowling unit he is likely to open the bowling and then bowl again at the death so he should be bowling when the cheap wickets come along. He took 15 wickets in just nine matches for Durham in the T20 Blast so he’s in good form and could be a big price in a market with injury prone challengers.
