The Masters Darts 2022 – Day 2 Tips and Betting Preview

The second day of action at The Masters sees the entire Last 16 of the first competition of the new season taking place across two sessions of play inside the Marshall Arena in Milton Keynes on a sizzling Saturday.

This is the first time this season we get to see the likes of the world champion Peter Wright, world number one Gerwyn Price and the multi-time winner Michael van Gerwen among others so the stars are out to shine here.

Afternoon Session

The day begins with the former Grand Slam of Darts champion Jose de Sousa taking on the current holder of the European Championship in Rob Cross in what looks like a tasty tussle. When they are done the newly married Gary Anderson will go up against a Joe Cullen who showed some good form on the opening night and will be looking to build on that against the Scot. The third match of the afternoon sees our pre-tournament pick Michael Smith on the stage for the first time since losing that world final. He meets Krzysztof Ratajski who dodged more bullets than you would have thought it was possible to dodge in the first round. The afternoon concludes with the former champion James Wade taking on Dave Chisnall.

Evening Session

The evening session is absolutely lit with star names and it is the defending champion Jonny Clayton who will get his title defence underway to begin the action. He faces the extremely talented Dimitri Van den Bergh who made a 105 average look easy in the first round. The world number one is on stage second in the evening when Gerwyn Price takes on the classy Ryan Searle before Peter Wright plays his first match as the world champion. Simon Whitlock is his opponent. The day then concludes with a potential cracker of a match between another former champion Michael van Gerwen and the rising star Luke Humphries.

Betting

I’ll go with just the one bet over the course of the day here while we assess how well or otherwise that the big names are playing. That comes in the form of Dave Chisnall to see off James Wade. Chisnall may have been a little flattered by the margin of his 6-0 win over Stephen Bunting on Friday evening but such results do wonders for confidence and you get the feeling that this match is in the palm of his hands against an opponent who will be steady and plod on but as we saw at the World Championship lacks that gear to compete if he isn’t let in.

Chisnall was 6/10 on the doubles against Bunting and if he is checking out to anything like that ratio here then he is going to be hard for Wade to beat because over 19 legs Chisnall is going to outscore Wade for the majority of the match. Obviously the World Championship didn’t go as Chisnall would have wanted with Covid sending him packing ahead of his third round match but it was only in defeat to Smith that Wade averaged over 95 at any stage of the Ally Pally showpiece. If Chisnall pins the doubles here I think he’ll have too much for Wade.

Tips

WON – Back D.Chisnall to beat J.Wade for a 3/10 stake at 1.91 with William Hill
