The Masters Snooker 2025 – Judd Trump vs Ding Junhui Tips and Betting Preview

The third quarter final of The Masters takes place on Friday afternoon when the favourite heading into the tournament is back in action inside the Alexandra Palace when Judd Trump bids to remain on course for completing the Triple Crown in one season when he takes on Ding Junhui.

Both these men played well in the opening round and saw off very good opposition to give them plenty of confidence and both are extremely stylistic and nice on the eye in terms of their talent on the table so this should be a great quarter final.

Judd Trump

Judd Trump arrived here as the favourite to win the tournament and claim a second Triple Crown title in succession. Were he to do that he could go to the Crucible Theatre in April looking to make his own piece of history so that would be a huge motivation for him even though he is such a winner he doesn’t treat any one tournament as more important than the others. He cruised past Barry Hawkins in a repeat of the UK Championship final in the opening round.

You would have to say that Trump was the beneficiary of some good fortune with Hawkins looking good in two of the opening four frames only to lose them both by splitting the pack and accidentally potting a rogue red. That wasn’t anything to do with Trump but the positive was that he was completely ruthless when those chances came his way and once he had gone 4-0 up at the interval the only thing to note was how big the margin of victory was going to be.

Ding Junhui

When he won the International Championship, Ding Junhui announced himself as being back as a player at the top level but it is generally tournaments like this one which really hammer that down so he will have been delighted to have come past a class act in Mark Williams in the first round. He had to come from behind to win that in a deciding frame but while he had some nice run of the ball at the right time he held himself together when it really mattered which bodes well.

We know that Ding can score with the best of them and if he has his scoring boots with him here then he is more than entitled to be dangerous. The concern is that this Alexandra Palace crowd are getting a little boisterous and Ding plays a crowd favourite here and he has wilted in that territory in the past so that could be a bit of an issue. You get the impression that Ding is going to need to start well here. If he doesn’t he could quickly go under.

Head-to-head

These two men have come across each other a number of times in the past. In all, they have met 16 times with Trump having won nine of those matches and Ding winning seven. Trump leads 106-94 on the frame count so his wins are either by wider margins or in longer matches. These two have played in three previous quarter finals and Trump has won the lot. Surprisingly, this will be the first time that they have met at The Masters but they have played each other over the best of 11 on one past occasion. Ding won that at the UK Championship in 2023.

Betting

I fancy Judd Trump to win this match but the question is how well he wins and I would be surprised if he doesn’t have a little bit in hand come the end. He has won their last three matches and the scores of those have been 6-1 10-4 and 4-0 so Ding hasn’t really landed a blow in any of those three games and in this environment if he starts off slowly I can see the newly crowned UK Championship winner beginning to run away with this like he did in the opening round.

Trump is riding the crest of a wave at the minute and he made it perfectly clear how much he loves crowds like this in the previous round and they are only going to be more raucous on a Friday where presumably everyone has taken the afternoon off work ahead of the weekend. That makes this an even tougher assignment for Ding. You can get 5/4 on Trump to win and under 9.5 frames which gives us Trump winning scores all the way up to 6-3. Any closer than that and Ding would be playing well enough to win anyway so I will take the Trump and under 9.5 frames.
