Tokyo 2020 Olympics – Other Sports Sunday 25th July Tips and Betting Preview

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics is well and truly up and running now and on Sunday the second full day of action takes place in the Japanese capital with another bunch of gold medals on the line in a variety of sports.

We see plenty of sports continuing their competitions and there are as many as 18 gold medals up for grabs on what should be a tasty day of action on Sunday. We’ll preview the tennis and the men’s football separately but here is our look at the rest of the action.

Gold Medal Events

  • Archery
  • Cycling
  • Diving
  • Fencing
  • Judo
  • Shooting
  • Skateboarding
  • Swimming
  • Taekwondo
  • Weightlifting

Other Sports

Plenty of other sports continue on Sunday which make up much of the Olympic programme. They include the hockey competitions, baseball and softball, beach volleyball, boxing. Fencing, rowing and beach volleyball are among the other things that we can watch on the various streams throughout the course of the day.

Swimming

There are four gold medals being handed out in the pool on Sunday and they all take place in the early session with the TV viewing figures in America worth so much that the finals need to be at primetime out there. I’ve had a look through the qualifiers and the odds and there is one that I like.

That comes in the Women’s 400 Individual Medley where I like the favourite Emma Weyant who is competing in her first Olympics and has to be considered a warm favourite to land the big prize given that she qualified more than two seconds quicker than anyone in the field. She is only 19 so she is probably at the peak age in her career and we shouldn’t rule out her going even quicker in this final. She does have a couple of challengers in the British swimmer Aimee Willmott who was seventh in Rio in this event while the world record holder Katinka Hosszu has made this final as well. She is past her best though and while the home hope Yui Ohashi, the bronze medallist at the World Championship two years ago, shouldn’t be ruled out, I think Weyant has more to come and can land the gold.

Hockey

Our first foray into the Hockey event at these Games comes along on Sunday afternoon when Spain take on New Zealand in a match the Kiwis could really do with winning after their opening defeat to not the best India side we’ve seen at these games. Spain came from behind to draw to a talented Argentina outfit in their opening match and I expect the European side to get up and running with a win here.

These two met in the FIH Pro League earlier in the year and Spain won their first meeting 4-1 while a couple of penalty corners got New Zealand the job done 3-2 in the second match. Spain arrive here in the better form of the two and already had a solid effort under their belt in their opening match on Saturday. I think the 8/11 on them winning this match is a little too big given the form of the two teams leading in.
