Tokyo 2020 Olympics – Other Sports Sunday 8th August Tips and Betting Preview

There are 13 gold medals left to be handed out at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and they will be won and lost on what is the final day of competition over in the Japanese capital on Sunday as the Games draws to a close.

It is a condensed day of action out in Tokyo to make enough time for the closing ceremony where the baton will be passed on to Paris ahead of them hosting the Olympics in three years. Expect plenty more excellent performances before this one is done though.

Cycling

There is one bet left for me in these Tokyo 2020 Olympics and it comes inside the Velodrome where the Women’s Omnium is the highlight of the final day. This four discipline event will go through the majority of the last day of action and presents Laura Kenny with another chance to win a gold medal, to add to the one she picked up in the Madison where she looked in red hot form. She will face a test from two recent world champions in the current holder of that title, Yumi Kajihara and the 2018 and 2019 winner Kirsten Wild.

Wild is probably the one to beat here in a lot of ways as her record in the World Championship in this event reads 2-1-1 between 2017 and 2019 but she was part of a Dutch side who messed up the Madison which makes me happy to leave her alone. Kajihara is entitled to be tough here too given this is her home Games but I just think Kenny looks so strong and I expect her to dominate this event too. The two events that left the Omnium notably the time trial and the flying lap were probably the weaker events for Kenny, who as a Pursuit rider will enjoy the tempo race a lot more. I think the 6/4 on her to win the gold looks too good to turn down here.
