The penultimate round of matches in the UEFA Nations League continues on Friday night when we have action in all four of the leagues over the course of what should be a decent evening of football around the continent.
It is another night where groups can be won and relegations can be confirmed or avoided so that is only going to ensure another competitive evening of football to follow on from the one which we were treated to on Thursday.
League A
There is only one group on show in the top league on Friday evening and they are both big matches in Group 3. England are in action in one of them and if they want any chance of remaining with the big boys they will know they can’t afford to lose when they head to the San Siro to take on Italy in a repeat of the Euro 2020 final. The other match in the group sees the top two battling it out when Germany play host to the surprise pacesetters Hungary.
League B
There is just the one group in action on Friday evening in League B as well and that is also Group 3 where just like in League A the top two meet in one match and the bottom two meet in another. The top two sees Bosnia and Herzegovina looking to secure promotion to the top league which they will do if they beat Montenegro. An away win sends the visitors into the final match knowing a win will win them the group. At the other end of the table Finland host Romania where a home win will relegate the visitors but should the Finns slip up they could be in danger on the final night.

League C
It is the bottom group which is in action in League C on Friday night and much like the groups in the higher two leagues we have a top two clash and a bottom two clash over the course of the night. The action actually begins with an early kick off which sees Georgia looking to secure promotion when they host a North Macedonia side who really have to win to keep their promotion hopes realistic. The other match sees Bulgaria looking to condemn Gibraltar to bottom spot when they meet in the second game of the night.
League D
We are left with just the one match in the bottom league and it comes in Group 2 where the top two meet in what is an early kick off in Talinn. Malta head to Estonia knowing that they have to win the game to have any real chance of winning the group as this is their final match and Estonia will go up against San Marino in a penalty kick in the other game. Malta will be looking to win and win well to give Estonia more work to do on Monday evening.
Betting
I’ll go with one bet over the course of the night and it comes from Milan where Italy and England meet in what is a huge match for England in particular. England sacked this tournament off in the summer, which was the right thing to do given the insanely tough schedule their players had endured but what it means is they are vulnerable to relegation and know that in all likelihood to have any chance of remaining with the big boys they simply have to score here and hope it is enough to win.
Italy can’t really afford to lose here either because the last thing they will want having failed to qualify for the World Cup is to be relegated from this group and then have a more difficult task ahead of them when it comes to qualifying for the defence of their European Championship crown. Both teams are missing a few players but I expect England to play front foot football here but I don’t trust them defensively so backing both teams to score makes sense to me.
