UEFA Nations League 2022-23 – Thursday 2nd June Matches Tips and Betting Preview

The new season of the UEFA Nations League continues on Thursday evening when a series of countries get their campaign underway and although we are a couple of years out from Euro 2024, for many this competition represents their best chance of qualifying for that so it is an important night for a lot of teams.

All four levels are in action on Thursday on a night where we see some of the bigger hitters at all levels of the competition, including an Iberian clash and a couple of other tasty games among the 10 taking place.

League A

The attention in the top league on Thursday night comes firmly from group A2 where the former champions Portugal are in action against the beaten finalists from last year in the form of Spain. The Spanish host their close rivals in what could be the decisive match in the group. The Czech Republic and Switzerland will have something to say about that though. The former host the latter in what is their first game at this level while Switzerland have been to the semi-final before and will be eager to get there again.

League B

Two groups are in action in this level on Thursday evening with B2 one of them. There is only one match in that section though as Russia have been kicked out of the competition. That leaves new to this level Israel playing host to an Iceland side who will be looking to get back to the days of six years ago where they were quarter finalists at the European Championships. The other group on show in League B on Thursday is B4 where World Cup qualifiers Serbia welcome Norway and Slovenia take on Sweden who are back at this level.

League C + D

We have a couple of groups in action at League C level on Thursday with C2 the first of them. The pick of the matches in this group sees Northern Ireland looking to turn the corner and get promoted back to League B when they host a Greece side who will have a similar thought process. The lesser sides in this group are Cyprus and Kosovo and they meet in Nicosia. C4 also begins on Thursday when the two matches form part of the early kick offs. Bulgaria will be expected to push for promotion but they face a tricky opener against North Macedonia while Georgia host the minnows Gibraltar in the other game. There is one match in League D which comes from D2 where Estonia will be looking for a comfortable win over San Marino.

Betting

I’ll go with one bet over the course of Thursday night where Serbia take on Norway in a match I expect to deliver a few goals. I would imagine Serbia will carry plenty of confidence into this match with them after their recent results and qualifying for the World Cup and they will see this competitive section as one they can win and start fighting with the big boys in League A when another season of this competition comes around.

Norway are an improving side themselves and while they won’t be at the World Cup, they will expect to be at Euro 2024 and a good showing in this group can give them an extra chance to make it to Germany. There is no shortage of attacking talent in these two teams, headed by Aleksandar Mitrovic and Erling Haaland but the support around them is pretty good too. This looks like a group where we’ll see a few goals and the odds against that three or more come here will do me.
