US Open Tennis – Day 6 Betting Preview

It is day six of the US Open tennis on Saturday and at the end of it both singles draws will have the last 16 players determined. Saturday is another busy day of action on the main courts with some big names in action in the day and night sessions.

Among the stellar names on show on Saturday are Andy Murray, Stan Wawrinka, Juan Martin del Potro, Serena Williams, Venus Williams and Simona Halep so the cast list is full of amazing quality.

Arthur Ashe Stadium

Simona Halep is first up on the main court when she takes on Timea Babos in an eastern European battle before Serena Williams goes up against Johanna Larsson. The men’s match in the day session sees Andy Murray taking on Paolo Lorenzi, the Italian who went five sets with Gilles Simon in the previous round.

The night session is opened up with Laura Siegemund taking on Venus Williams before Nick Kyrgios gets to be the centre of attention when he takes on Illya Marchenko under the floodlights.

Louis Armstrong Stadium

Carla Suarez Navarro and Elena Vesnina begin the action over on Armstrong on Saturday before Agnieszka Radwanska faces Caroline Garcia in another all-seeded battle. They are followed by Juan Martin del Potro and David Ferrer in what could be the match of the day. Dan Evans and Stan Wawrinka close the show under the floodlights.

Grandstand

Over on the new court Dominic Thiem will look to enhance his blossoming reputation when he takes on Pablo Carreno Busta. That is followed by Ana Konjuh going up against Varvara Lepchenko before one of the pick of the women’s matches on the day which sees Karolina Pliskova taking on Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Kei Nishikori takes on Nicolas Mahut in the last match on this court.

Best of the Rest

Joao Sousa and Grigor Dimitrov are the star attractions out on Court 17 while Ivo Karlovic is also on that court as well. The rest of the schedule is largely made up with doubles matches as those events hit the business end of the tournament too.

Betting

It was another good day on Friday with two winners out of three bets and I’m going into Saturday with three bets as well. Two of them come in the men’s draw this time with just the one in the women’s side of things.

Out on Court 17, Grigor Dimitrov is a big favourite to see off Joao Sousa but I’m not convinced that should be the case. Dimitrov is certainly showing much better form at the minute I don’t think there is any disputing that but just because Sousa isn’t such a household name doesn’t mean he’s without a chance in this one.

Sousa has an explosive style that can be very hard to handle on these fast conditions and whether he wins or he doesn’t a 5.5 game handicap on the side of the Bulgarian is a bit of a joke. In order for that to be covered he is probably going to have to win in straight sets and I don’t see that happening. I think Sousa has the power and the creativity to trouble Dimitrov and take at least a set to remain within 5.5 games and possibly even take the win.

The final game on Armstrong could be a more interesting game than the odds give it credit for. Stan Wawrinka hasn’t really looked much so far whereas Dan Evans has actually played quite well in this tournament. He is hitting the ball hard and serving well and in these conditions that always gives you a chance.

Stan Wawrinka doesn’t look fully on it to me. He looks a step slow physically and he looks like his mind is elsewhere at times and he was pretty flat in the last round albeit in victory but he’ll have to up his game to come through this in straight sets. I don’t think this one will be won in straight sets either way. You would think the Swiss’ experience will get him the win but I’m expecting at least four sets in this one.

Over on the women’s draw the closest match on paper looks like being the one between Yaroslava Shvedova and Shuai Zhang. If you take Wimbledon out of the equation and her run there Shvedova hasn’t really done a huge amount this year. I guess you could say Zhang hasn’t done a huge amount either but she has more wins than losses on the year and that is never a bad thing.

Zhang took Sam Stosur to the cleaners in the previous round so she’ll be coming in here full of confidence and I expect that confidence to translate into another win against a relatively limited Shvedova especially on these fast courts.
