USPGA Championship Betting Preview – Value to be found in the nationality markets

There are over 80 markets available for the upcoming USPGA Championship and there is still time to get on a few more of them before the tournament tees off on Thursday.

From nationality markets to finishing position ones along with making or missing the cut and individual day markets there is plenty to look into and there are a couple of nationality ones which have caught my eye here.

The first of those is the Top South African market where Louis Oosthuizen is a 2/1 favourite. Oosthuizen has been a runner up in the last two majors so it is no surprise that he is as short as that but there is a decent South African contingent in this tournament and I’m inclined to take him on.

Oosthuizen’s mate Charl Schwartzel is one man opposing him in this market as is Ernie Els. Rory Sabbatini, George Coetzee, Tim Clark and Johan Kok along with Branden Grace. I’m not sure Schwartzel can do four rounds in big events at the minute. Sabbatini could be a danger while the others all look either bang out of form or unsuited to this course. Apart from one man that is.

That man is Branden Grace. Grace is a brilliant driver of the ball and his length and accuracy will serve him well this week. If the wind is up early on in the tournament that won’t trouble him and his short game is good enough to compete as we saw in the US Open when but for one swing late on Sunday he would have been the champion. I believe this course will suit Grace and at 7/2 he’s my pick in this market.

The other market I like is the top Australian one where understandably Adam Scott and Jason Day are warm orders. Like with the South African market there is a serious strength in depth in this market though so I think they are worth taking on.

Marc Leishman was so close to winning The Open last month so it would be foolish to write him off quickly while Cameron Smith ran well at the US Open and Matt Jones is a solid player as is John Senden. In truth you can make a case for all of them but one other man could be better value than all of them.

Steven Bowditch has already won a tournament this year which is a trend which goes quite well in this tournament and at his best he’s a very solid driver of the golf ball. Bowditch ran well at Firestone for long periods last week too which shows his all round game is working nicely and at double figures he might just land this market ahead of the main duo.
