The WDF World Darts Championship continues inside the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green on Monday evening when a bunch of second round matches take place on an evening where some top seeds come out to play.
We have four matches from the men’s draw on Monday evening while we get to see two of the better women in the tournament competing across the course of the two matches in that competition as well.
First Three Matches
We open the night with the lowest seed in the men’s competition looking to make it through to the last 16 when the German player Paul Krohne meets the Czech player Dalibor Smolik who put up one of the better showings in the opening round. We then head to the women’s event where Nicole Regnaud takes on the Canadian player Maria Carli who came through the opening round. When they are done we head to the midpoint of the session with the Australia player Raymond Smith taking on a Clint Clarkson who finished very impressively in the opening round.

Later Three Matches
We remain in the men’s draw to begin the second half of the night when the Dutch player Corne Groeneveld looks for his first win on the Lakeside stage when he faces Jonas Masalin who was one of the better first round winners. The top seed in the women’s draw then opens up her campaign in the penultimate match of the evening when Lerena Rietbergen faces her compatriot Aletta Wajer in what looks like one of the better second round matches on paper. We conclude the night with arguably the match of the evening as the former champion Neil Duff faces the New Zealand ace Ben Robb who posted the highest average in the first round.
Betting
There isn’t too much that I like over the course of the night but it is hard to ignore how impressive Jonas Masalin was in the first round. It wasn’t just his 89.22 average but five 180s and a 42% checkout rate is going to win more matches than it doesn’t at this level. The trick for him now is to repeat that performance but if he does that then he should be able to come through against Corne Groeneveld without suffering too much of a scare.
Ryan Hogarth but up a good challenge to Masalin in the opening round which bodes well whereas Groeneveld is looking for a first win on the Lakeside stage and doesn’t have the advantage of having had a match on the oche this week already. I was hoping that the Finn would be a backable price to win this match but bookmakers have rightly reacted to that first round performance but there is enough juice in him to cover a -1.5 set handicap at a much healthier price.
Tips
Back J.Masalin (-1.5 sets) to beat C.Groeneveld for a 3/10 stake at 2.20 with Bet365
