West Indies vs England – 3rd T20 Tips and Betting Preview

The T20 series between West Indies and England is bubbling along nicely and the third leg of it will be played out in Barbados on Wednesday evening when the two sides will be battling it out to go one up with two to play.

The overriding focus will be on the early stages of preparation for the T20 World Cup towards the end of the year but these two nations are very proud and will want to win the series in their own right so this third game could be pivotal.

West Indies

Sometimes you can win in defeat and it might be that West Indies did that in the previous game when although they went down, they fought right to the end and on another day might have got up from an impossible looking position. When you consider that we haven’t really seen some key players perform in the series for West Indies yet, the fact that they nearly went 2-0 up will give them some confidence because you would imagine those men will come good in the end.

The two issues West Indies had in the previous game was getting someone to support Jason Holder in the seam department. He is having a wonderful series but could do with a little bit of support. The other thing West Indies need to do is avoid losing so many wickets early in their innings. We saw in that second game that they have all the batting depth in the world so if they can just avoid getting themselves into early issues they can overpower teams in the second half of matches.

England

England picked up a vital win to level the series on Sunday but it might have felt like a defeat given how close they came to losing from what was looking like an unassailable position at one stage. England have always been frail at the death in this format of the game which is why they so often choose to chase when they get the chance and we really saw that weakness get exposed in game two. It was the tail enders who exposed it too so heaven knows what would happen were West Indies to have top order batters in at that stage of the innings.

The other issue England have had in this series is not making the most of the new ball. They have lost a couple of early wickets in both matches and that isn’t a formula for success long-term, albeit they are without a couple of key top order players in this series. The good things England have done though is take advantage of the latter overs with the bat and keep things tight with the new ball so if they can add top order runs to the cause they’ll be confident of winning this one.

Team News

Unless West Indies want to do something about their top order then they are likely to be unchanged for this one. If they do want to change it up they have Roston Chase, Kyle Mayers and Rovman Powell ready and waiting for their chance.

It looks like Liam Livingstone is over the illness which kept him out of the first two games so he is likely to come into the side with Liam Dawson perhaps the man to make way for him given that he only bowled one over on Sunday. Tymal Mills could be available again which could make Saqib Mahmood’s place in the side vulnerable after he got carted to all parts in the final over on Sunday.

Betting

The sixes have been my go to bet for this series so far and it is going to stay that way here because although the line has moved up to 12.5 since the last game, I’m still not convinced it is high enough. I say that because England haven’t really got going with the bat like we know they can in the series yet while the West Indies 55-5 and 98-8 in the last game and there was still 19 sixes in the contest with the potential for a lot more to come.

I would imagine we’ll be on a fresh wicket here so there should be no issues with the track and now that both sides are up to speed and acclimatised to the conditions we should see the runs and the big hits continue to flow. There were 19 sixes in the last game without Eoin Morgan, Brandon King, Kieron Pollard or Jason Holder contributing to the total and they are all clean hitters of a cricket ball. I would expect the total to be around that number again if not more so I’m more than happy to be on over 12.5 sixes.
