Wimbledon 2019 Men’s Final – Novak Djokovic vs Roger Federer Tips and Betting Preview

There is one singles match left at Wimbledon this year and it promises to be an absolute belter as the top two seeds in the men’s draw meet in the final when Novak Djokovic takes on Roger Federer on Centre Court on Sunday.

Both these men have won this title before so whoever wins this final will only further secure their legacy and their greatness. There is no doubt these have been the best two in the tournament so it is fitting they meet in the final.

Novak Djokovic

The world number one and defending champion Novak Djokovic has made it through to this final without much of a test. He has lost a couple of sets along the way but he has been fairly comfortable although I would question whether he has faced anyone who truly believed they can beat him over the best-of-five sets. I don’t think we’ve seen vintage Djokovic in the tournament so far but we might well need to see the best of him here.

Djokovic has been exemplary from the back of the court in this campaign but whether this final can be won from there remains to be seen. If the Serb is going to win this match you get the feeling he will have to serve well. He has won three of the last four Grand Slams though so he knows all about getting it done under the pressure of the big occasion so writing him off would be pretty stupid.

Roger Federer

There is no doubt that Roger Federer has had the tougher route to this final. He has had to take on and defeat Kei Nishikori and Rafael Nadal in the last two rounds whereas much like Serena Williams in the women’s draw, Djokovic is yet to meet anyone in the top 20. The two battles he had with Nishikori and Nadal might just have hardened up the Swiss maestro for whom another success here would be among his finest achievements.

Federer will be going in search of Grand Slam singles title number 21 in this match as he looks to win this title for the ninth time. He hasn’t won a Grand Slam since the Australian Open last year but rarely has he looked so good on the grass in recent years. The playing of a near-full clay court season has undoubtedly helped. Federer has looked excellent from the back of the court this week but if this final is determined at the net he will really fancy his chances.

Head-to-Head

This is meeting 48 between these two amazing competitors and it is Djokovic who has the slight edge in their past battles, coming out on top 25 times to the 22 of Federer. This is their fourth meeting here and Djokovic heads Federer 2-1 in previous contests with both of his wins coming in finals. This will be the fifth time the pair have clashed in a Grand Slam final with Djokovic once again with the upper hand having won three of the first four. Djokovic has also won five of the last six meetings between the two.

Betting

I’m already on Roger Federer to win this match at a decent price and I’m pretty happy with my position there as I believe he is the man who will win this match. I think the low bounce of this Centre Court plays perfectly into his hands as his slice will be devastating and he can get up to the net and finish points off with a lot more confidence.

My bet however is for Federer to serve the most double faults at what I think is a bit of a crazy price. Djokovic is the best returner in the game at present so Federer will know he has to go for a little more on his second serve else it is just going to get swallowed up and that opens him up to more double faults than usual. Federer has actually served the most double faults in four of the last six battles between these two and in both their previous Wimbledon finals. The other two in that last six ended all squad in double faults so the 9/2 on Federer serving the most when he needs to attack the lines a lot more here appeals to me.
