Wimbledon 2019 – Women’s Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

We have reached the semi-finals of the Wimbledon tournament where it is the turn of the women to go first and so on Thursday we will determine the identity of the two ladies who will compete for the title on Saturday afternoon.

All eyes will be on Serena Williams to see if she can continue her quest for another major title. She faces Jo Konta’s conqueror Barbora Strycova while the other match looks like a very appealing contest indeed.

Day 9 Recap

If we are being honest this has been a disappointing men’s tournament and that continued on Wednesday when the current holders of the two Grand Slams – Novak Djokovic and Rafael Nadal both prevailed in straight sets while Roger Federer and Roberto Bautista Agut had to go to a fourth set but neither were taken out of their comfort zone at any stage.

It was to be another frustrating day for us betting wise. When David Goffin broke the Novak Djokovic serve to lead 4-3 in the first set there was the feeling we were set up for a classic. Sadly the Belgian won just two more games in the entire match. Thankfully Roger Federer salvaged the day when he covered the handicap against Kei Nishikori even though he lost the first set.

Elina Svitolina vs Simona Halep (H2H: 4-3)

The big semi-final of the two in the women’s draw sees two former world number ones meeting for a place in a first Wimbledon final when Elina Svitolina goes up against Simona Halep in what could be an extremely athletic contest.

Svitolina holds the edge in their head-to-head record but it is Halep who won their last meeting and I think she’ll win this one as well. Svitolina doesn’t convince me in the big matches and with this being her first Grand Slam semi-final you would think she is going to be nervous and potentially struggle here. I don’t see Halep doing that. She is a relentless machine and I believe that extra ball she always gets back will be the big difference here. This isn’t Svitolina’s best surface and I expect the Romanian to take advantage of that.

Serena Williams vs Barbora Strycova (H2H: 3-0)

The second semi-final of the tournament will see Serena Williams looking to make it 11 last four clashes unbeaten on Centre Court when she takes on the unseeded Barbora Strycova who has been outperforming expectations for a good few rounds now.

Serena hasn’t lost a set against Strycova in their three previous meetings and one of those was here. I don’t see that changing in this match either. Strycova was on her way to a right good hiding by Jo Konta in the previous round before the Briton churned up 33 unforced errors. Strycova won’t get that kindness out of Serena and the Czech doesn’t have the weapons to hurt the American in any way. You would think Strycova is a sitting duck for the greatest the women’s game has ever seen here.
