Wimbledon 2021 – Women’s Semi-Finals Tips and Betting Preview

We will find out which two women will compete for the Wimbledon title in the final on Saturday when the two semi-finals take place on Centre Court on a Thursday which has the potential to be a brilliant day of tennis.

The four players who remain in the tournament have either all been world number one in the past or is one in waiting so the quality should be very high in both matches as a spot in the final is played out for.

Ash Barty vs Angelique Kerber

The opening semi-final sees the two remaining women to have a Grand Slam title to their name battling it out when Ash Barty takes on Angelique Kerber, one of whose major titles came on this very court three years ago.

Barty has come through the draw very nicely indeed but you could argue that with the exception of Barbora Krejcikova, whose game doesn’t flourish on the grass like it does on other surfaces, she hasn’t really played anyone. That accusation can’t be levelled at Kerber who has come past Coco Gauff and Karolina Muchova in her last two matches. She hasn’t just come through those matches, she has done it with plenty to spare and I’m amazed she’s as much of an outsider as she is here.

It isn’t as though Barty has a head to head advantage either as that sits at 2-2 and although the Australian will be the one on the front foot that will suit Kerber fine as she loves to sit on the baseline and defend her way to victory. She is no stranger to absorbing power and getting through matches and is a seasoned grass court player. I’m not saying Kerber is a certainty to win this match but she feels overpriced at 2/1.

Karolina Pliskova vs Aryna Sabalenka

The second semi-final is going to be a tough encounter for the tennis ball as two of the hardest hitting exponents of it do battle for a place in a first Wimbledon final when Karolina Pliskova takes on the second seeded Aryna Sabalenka.

Pliskova has the slight advantage going into this match in that not only has she competed in Grand Slam semi-finals in the past, she has won one as well which could be significant given that the Belarussian has never been to this stage of a major before. Sabalenka has looked very impressive in recent matches though and that has to count for something. I’ve been waiting for her to beat herself with her unbalanced mentality and her error count but that hasn’t been the case. Even against Ons Jabeur she was able to mix power and movement and she looks dangerous.

I’m expecting a lengthy semi-final here for a couple of reasons. The first of those is that both of their previous meetings have gone to a third set and the form they are both in this one is strongly likely to as well. The other is because they both have huge serves and can dominate the points behind it so breaks might be at more of a premium than usual in women’s matches. Sabalenka has already played a big server and come out on top and I think she moves better so she’s a worthy favourite to me but the safest bet looks like over 21.5 games in this one, a line I’d be surprised if it isn’t covered in two sets let alone three.
